We’re looking for an Editor to join the Military.com editorial team and play a hands-on role in shaping the content we publish for our audience of service members, veterans, and military families. This is an opportunity for a strong editor to take ownership of stories from pitch to publication, work closely with writers and the Managing Editor, and help grow the quality and reach of one of the leading digital platforms serving the military community.About Military.comMilitary.com is a leading digital publication dedicated to serving the U.S. military community. This is an opportunity to work in a fast-paced digital newsroom where editorial judgment, accuracy, audience understanding, and the ability to move quickly all matter.RoleSupport the day-to-day editorial operations of Military.com, working under the Managing Editor to ensure the timely publication of news, features, and resource contentServe as a hands-on editor and writer, editing and publishing news, features, interviews, and evergreen content while contributing original stories aligned with vertical prioritiesChampion editorial excellence and audience-focused execution, framing content decisions around the needs and interests of Military.com's core audience and upholding the site's established tone, voice, flow, and quality standardsWork closely with editorial, operations, and other cross-functional teams to align on editorial priorities, goals, and site-wide initiativesResponsibilitiesEdit and publish assigned articles against tight news and feature deadlines, ensuring accuracy, quality, strong visual presentation, and alignment with SEO and Google Discover optimization guidelinesPitch a balanced mix of near- and long-term story ideas, pairing immediate, deadline-driven news with features, originals, and reported pieces that require deeper sourcing and longer lead timesMonitor breaking news, industry trends, and audience interests to surface stories that are underreported or overlooked by direct competitors, and expand coverage through unique angles and evergreen opportunitiesSupport writers by providing clear, timely, and constructive feedback, reviewing and approving incoming pitches, and following up on stalled assignments to keep time-sensitive stories on scheduleDevelop and maintain relationships with service branches, agencies, nonprofits, advocacy groups, and subject-matter experts to secure official comments and build a reliable source network for long-term coverageContribute to site audits and content optimization efforts, and escalate editorial questions, accuracy concerns, or deadline risks to the Managing EditorQualifications3-5 years of professional writing experience in a newsroom, digital publication, or comparable deadline-driven environmentHave to be a Veteran or an active duty member of the militaryExposure to editing through formal editing duties, peer review, or copy editing, with a clear interest in growing as an editorProven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver quality work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environmentDemonstrated interest in the military community, including the service branches, active-duty life, and the veteran space; direct experience covering or living in that world is a plus, not a requirementProficiency with a web CMS for editing, formatting, and publishing, and with project management tools such as Asana for tracking assignments, deadlines, and editorial workflows
