Apply via Dice today!Role: Tool Engineer 2Duration: 6 Months Contract W2location: El Segunda, CA (On-Site)Schedule: 9x80 APosition summary:The ideal candidate for this role will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with high expectations, diverse assignments, and collaborating with internal and external customers.In this role you will design industrial tools, dies, gauges, drill & assembly jigs, fixtures, machine attachments and equipment, required for production or experimental use, considering such factors as accessibility, economy, mobility, and performance requirements.This role works closely with manufacturing, operations, vendors, and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure tooling meets quality, cost, schedule, and safety requirements.The candidate shall have the ability to work autonomously and in a team environment, adapt to processes and company policy while providing input or methods of process/design innovation. Key responsibilities:Develop tooling concepts and support equipment for new and existing programsDesign tooling and equipment, including engineering drawings, inspection requirements, and verification plansWork closely with Tool Designers to create and finalize drawingsReview designs for manufacturability, fit, form, and functionManage tooling projects, including cost, schedule, procurement, and fabricationInterface with internal customers and design review teams to ensure requirements are metSupport vendors during fabrication and inspect fabricated tooling for drawing complianceCollaborate with manufacturing, operations, and process engineering to support program quality, delivery, and cost objectivesSupport continuous improvement initiatives and proactive problem-solving Basic qualifications:Experience with industry standard design tools including NX CAD, CATIAKnowledge of manufacturing, fabrication processes & machine shop practicesExperience with drawing release criteria and related documents for completeness, clarity, and dimensional accuracy; correctness of materials and processes; conformity to design/drafting standards (e.g. GD&T), design specifications, and practicability; economy of fabrication, assembly, and installation.Knowledge and application of GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2018)Knowledge and application of drawing weld symbolsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong organizational skills in managing time, projects, and resourcesTechnical attention to detailBachelor of Science in a STEM disciplinePreferred qualifications:Experience in an aerospace manufacturing environmentExperience in engineering, design, and fabrication of special tooling and support equipmentAbility to evaluate vendor capabilities for tooling and aerospace part productionExperience participating in developments project, establishing tooling SOW & design estimatesExperience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systemExcellent organizational and project management skillsExperience with stress analysis and finite element analysis (FEA)Professional Engineering LicenseCurrent active DOD Secret clearance with an investigation date/periodic review within the last 5 years
