Resident Advocate
DescriptionPosition Summary:Provides information, referrals, and advocacy services to residents.Duties And ResponsibilitiesWithin the limits of agency policy and practice, this position is authorized to carry out the following in a professional and ethical manner:Handles 24 hour crisis line on shiftFacilitate services for residentsOrients new residents to shelter procedures.Document all services and activities in resident files dailyRead and follow agency and program policy manualsSuccessfully complete all training requirementsInteract with residents on a daily basis a minimum of 3 hours per shiftAssist with meal preparation, child care, chores as neededComplete safety checks of the shelter during shiftMaintain shelter cleanlinessNotify on-call worker in cases of emergencyRestock supplies as neededMust be able to maintain professional boundaries.Will obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid Certification.Will attend New Service Provider Training.Other duties as assignedQualificationsGood verbal and written communication skillsComputer proficiency with Microsoft Word.Good organizational skills.Ability to communicate with people from diverse cultures.Knowledge of services available within the community.Remain current on issues re: DV and Sexual Assault. Ability to respond supportively to persons/clients in crisis.Ability to enter progress notes and statistics via computer. RequirementsMinimum Education and Experience:High School Diploma or GEDSpecial Conditions Of EmploymentValid Driver’s License, a working motor vehicle, and proof of current vehicle insurance.Undergo and successfully pass a State of Michigan LIEN Check and Central Registry Clearance.Pre-Employment Drug and Alcohol Screen.Negative TB Test upon hire with follow-up TB tests as required by Caring Connection policy.Undergo a background check with no recent felony convictions and no abuse/neglect convictions. Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings, weekends and holidays, as necessary.
