Housing Stability and Community Engagement VISTA
This position joins Oregon Health Authority’s statewide AmeriCorps VISTA team at Neighborhood House. Neighborhood House is a nonprofit organization that helps people thrive through access to education, health, housing, and basic needs services. Neighborhood House serves individuals in the Portland metro area with a focus on communities experiencing poverty and barriers to opportunity. Neighborhood House is expanding affordable housing efforts to increase housing stability and improve health outcomes for low-income individuals and families. Stable housing is a critical foundation for economic mobility, physical and mental health, educational success, and overall well-being. Through affordable housing development and resident support services, we help community members access safe, stable housing and connect with resources that promote long-term success. This member will help build the systems, partnerships, and engagement strategies needed to support affordable housing residents and strengthen housing stability. By increasing organizational capacity and strengthening resident engagement systems, this project will help Neighborhood House better address the root causes of poverty and housing instability. In addition to activities at your individual host site, OHA provides members with project orientation, training and professional development, 5 in-person team meetings per year, and support from VISTA team leaders and project director. Position offers are made on a rolling basis; early applications are strongly encouraged.Further help on this page can be found by clicking here .Member Duties : The AmeriCorps member will assess community needs; evaluate outreach and engagement gaps; and develop systems for tenant engagement, partnership development, data collection, and housing resource coordination. This project alleviates poverty by expanding organizational capacity to improve access to affordable housing resources for low-income individuals and families. VISTA members serve Oregonians through indirect service and capacity building, meaning the work you will do is the behind-the-scenes. While programs developed endure for years, you will have limited direct interaction with community members. Ideal candidates are interested in systems development, take a proactive approach and can work independently. Interest or experience working with community is preferred. Position specific benefits: Shared 2-BR apartment 5 minutes away from the office. Neighborhood House will cover 75% of the rent and the member is responsible for just 25% ($250/month).
