Church Organist/Choir Director

University Baptist Church is seeking a part-time church organist/choir director to fill a staff position at our historic church across from the Johns Hopkins University campus. The choir performs a variety of music during the service, ranging from the classical repertoire (including excerpts from masses and requiems sung in Latin), spirituals, and contemporary anthems. Who We Are — University Baptist ChurchResponsibilitiesProvide music for one service every Sunday morning 9:15am-10:30am, including prelude, postlude, anthems, hymnsDirect choir (paid octet and volunteers) during the service and rehearsal (Sunday following the service, from 10:30-11:30am)Provide music for extra services, including Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, and Good FridayPlan and direct Christmas and Lenten choir concerts, as part of regular church serviceBe available for weddings and funerals in the churchOversee the maintenance of the church organ (1967 M. P. Moller pipe organ – 55 ranks, 3 manuals) and pianos (including two Steinway & Sons); arrange for tuning and repairs as neededSchedule and CompensationChoir sings from the Sunday after Labor Day through the last Sunday in May; solos/duets are scheduled through the summerSalary range: Part Time $25,000 - $35,000, based on 52 weeks with 4 weeks paid vacation, and is dependent on qualifications and commensurate with the job.Responsible for finding a competent replacement for summer vacation and any Sunday conflicts.Qualifications and SkillsPrevious experience as a Church organist or in a similar role, with preference for ability to conduct the choirExcellent musical skills, including sight reading and open-score readingProficient in a wide variety of musical styles, especially as appropriate for worshipStrong communication and interpersonal skillsGood organizational skills to plan music calendar, coordinate with musicians, work with pastoral staff, maintain the music libraryApplication ProcessApplication Deadline: February 28, 2026Please include:Cover letter and resumé that includes your musical background, degrees, previous positions, experience directing a choir and accompanying experienceTwo professional letters of recommendationAny links to two solo organ selections (a Prelude and a Postlude) less than 10 minutes total in length and, if possible, two excerpts conducting a choral ensembleSend Application to: organistsearch@ubcbaltimore.orgJ-18808-Ljbffr
