Duties include planning, scheduling and physically performing a variety of work encompassing all maintenance tasks. Monitors rivers and/or lake stages at flood control project. Reads gauges, evaluates lake inflow, evaluates rate of rise in lake, and makes gate changes. Operates flood control equipment by operating switches, levers, and electric panels to position dam gates, flaps , and valves to control water flow and reduce downstream flooding. Operates, trouble shoots and repairs industrial type mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic equipment as related to cranes, hoists, pumps, hydraulic systems and water control gate systems. Makes periodic inspection of dam structures for cracks and erosion. Reports problems and emergencies as they occur considering effects of water release on life and property downstream and determining necessary adjustments in conjunction with Water Management. Operates and maintains all electrical components, panels, and circuitry for a major public works flood control structure as well as associated office buildings and public use areas. Ensures design and capability of new equipment is compatible with and capable of safe operation under expected loads. Operates, inspects, and performs preventative maintenance on overhead cranes, mobile hydraulic crane, road grader, excavator, dump trucks, all-terrain vehicles, snowplows, bob cat, front-end loaders, bulldozer, skid steers, backhoes, boats, and vessels. Plans and tracks preventative and non-recurring maintenance and repairs utilizing computer-based database programs. Acts as project contract officer’s representative on contracts related to buildings and grounds maintenance, sewage and water systems operations and others as necessary. Plans and implements maintenance activities utilizing a diverse skillset including, but not limited to, carpentry, welding, masonry, plumbing, mechanical, electrical and earthwork, all with limited supervision. Other Conditions And RequirementsMinimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): I have the ability to perform common maintenance and repair of the equipment including hydraulics, electronics, mechanics, and equipment operation. I can operate heavy equipment to include overhead cranes, road graders, excavators, dump trucks, skid steers to safely. I work independent of close supervision in the capacity of work leader or journey-level employee who plans and observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Physical Effort: Makes repair on equipment or in installations often on high or hard to reach places, working on steep or uneven ground, steep stairways, ladders, or platforms. Requires constant arm and leg movement and reaching, bending, and turning to operate hand and foot controls when operating tractor, motor vehicle, or crane. Exerts effort to maintain balance and position at controls of equipment. Stands, stoops, bends, kneels, climbs, and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Works on scaffolds, ladders, and while suspended from overhead crane, which require work overhead or in stretched, cramped, or awkward positions. Exerts heavy physical effort frequently lifting and moving objects weighing over 50 pounds, pushing heavy loads, and operating heavy hand-held equipment. Working Conditions: Work is performed in a variety of conditions. Work is completed on but not limited to scaffolding, high ladders or rooftops subject to dangers such as but not limited to falling, exposed to possibility of burns, cuts and bruises, broken bones, or infections. Work may be performed in inclement weather to perform duties including but not limited to surveillance of project, various inspections, boundary marking, special events, and emergency situations (respond to public accidents, drownings, etc.). The incumbent of this position must be capable of working in conditions of dust, welding fumes, paint vapors, and conditions of poor air quality. Drivers License: You must be able to maintain a valid State motor vehicle operator’s license Must pass a pre-employment physical; This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties. This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Testing Program. Pre-employment and random drug testing thereafter is required. A DA 5019 is required for verification of understanding that this is a drug testing position. This position requires specific Corps of Engineers certifications or licenses (e.g., equipment operator, boat operator, etc.) and will be provided by the Corps of Engineers.
