Direct Support Professional (DPS)

Job Description Description:Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are responsible for assisting individuals as prescribed within the Person-Centered Individualized Support Plan (PCISP), provide quality care to individuals, and to increase quality of life inkeeping with Alternative Home Care Services' vision, mission and core values. Consistent attendance is a generalqualification for this job.⎯ Provide quality care of individuals in their homes.a. Ensure that the safety and health of individuals is maintained through continuous monitoringb. Maintain the highest standards of grooming and hygiene: bathing, toileting, oral care, shaving,dressing, grooming.c. Provide transportation in accordance with the individual's social, medical and generaldevelopmental needs⎯ Prepare meals in accordance with dietary plans and encourage successful completion of the individual'sdining objectives.⎯ Provide quality care of the individual's home⎯ Ensure the surroundings of the individual remain clean and in good repair through daily cleaning, laundry,testing smoke and CO2 alarms and maintaining appropriate water temperatures.⎯ Provide quality medical care of the individual.a. Understand and deliver quality care for individuals in compliance with the PCISP and AlternativeHome Care Services' policies and procedures Administer medications: oral, rectal, sublingual, inhaled Monitor health related issues such as dysphasia, seizures, diabetes, etc. Assist with medical appointmentsb. Understand and provide support for maladaptive behaviors including self-injurious behaviors(SIB), physical aggression, spitting, biting, pinching, property destruction, verbal aggressionc. Charting and documenting all services provided Maintain individual's records and other documentation per established procedures Timeliness, completeness and accuracy of oral and written communications⎯ Provide professional internal and external relationships, cooperation and partnership with all AlternativeHome Care Services employees, managers and individuals receiving services.Minimum Qualifications:⎯ Willingness to work a diverse schedule based on service participant need and preference⎯ Ability to bend, stoop, sit, stand, reach and lift items weighing at least 75 pounds⎯ Meets 460 IAC 6 minimum qualifications for a direct care staff:a. 460 IAC 6-14-5 Requirements for direct care staffAuthority: IC 12-8-8-4; IC 12-9-2-3; IC 12-11-1.1-9; IC 12-11-2.1-12DIVINE HARMONY RESIDENTIAL SERVICES l10.bDated 1/18/2024Affected: IC 12-11-1.1; IC 12-11-2.1b. Sec. 2. A provider of transportation services shall ensure that an individual is transported only ina vehicle:(1) maintained in good repair;(2) properly registered with the Indiana bureau of motor vehicles; and(3) insured as required under Indiana law.⎯ Current negative TB (Tuberculin test) as required by 460 IAC 6⎯ Acceptable background checks as required by 460 IAC 6 and Indiana DDRS policyRelationships:This position works under the direct supervision of the House Manager or Team Coordinator and has direct contactwith individuals receiving services, their families, and community partners. DSPs must demonstrate a willingness toaccept supervision and an interest in, and empathy for, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.I have read and understand this job description.
