This position requires a deep understanding of embedded systems, control theory, and real-time software design. In addition to technical leadership, the role provides direct supervision and career development to 2-7 direct reports, supporting performance management, recruitment, and process development. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND SKILLS: Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:LeadershipManage performance, development, and goal setting of direct reportsMentor and develop technical capabilities within the teamAssist with employee retention and recruitmentAssist with budget and department goal settingControls Software Technical LeadershipLead technical execution of embedded controls and software scopeEstimate effort and identifies required skillsets requiredWork with cross functional project leads to ensure project successDefine controls architecture, platform, and functionalityEnsure compliance with software standards and program requirementsSupport customer interactions, technical reviews, and proposal effortsSystem Simulation and ModelingFormulate multi-domain models of mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic systemsIdentify performance metrics and system specifications from model resultsModel correlation and validation to test dataUse models to develop and test controls algorithmsSystem Hardware IntegrationSupport design, selection, and integration of electronic componentsCommunicate mechanical requirements of system to design staffIdentify controller hardware to meet I/O and computational requirementsTroubleshoot and resolve system and electrical issuesEDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:BS or MS in Automotive, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Mechatronic Systems6+ years of engineering experienceDESIRED SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:Embedded software in C/C++ on microcontrollers, Linux, or RTOS-based platformsSystem modeling and simulation in MATLAB, Simulink, and StateflowEmbedded Model-Based Development tools (Simulink/Stateflow Coder, MotoHawk, Raptor, OpenECU, dSPACE)Vehicle/system level simulation (ADAMS, Dymola, CarSim/ TruckSim, FMI/FMU)Classical control techniques including PID, lead-lag compensation, loop shaping, root locus design, feedforward control, and cascaded loop architecturesModern control techniques including state-space modeling, LQR/LQG, Kalman Filtering, Model Predictive Control (MPC), robust control and MIMO system designExpertise in specific areas such as:Weapon SystemsCombat Vehicle EngineeringFire Control SystemsTurrets and Ammo Handling SystemsKnowledge of MIL Standards for software, electronics, communications, cyber and functional safety (MIL-STD-498, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-882E, DO-178C, DO-254)Experience delivering defense software CDRLsNetworking protocols and standards (Ethernet, TCP/IP, UDP, EtherCAT, DDS, TSN)Automotive protocols (CAN, LIN, J1939, XCP/CCP) and Tools (Vector, Kvaser, INCA)Actuator controls (motors, valves) and by-wire designElectric and Hybrid vehicle architectureVehicle and system troubleshooting experienceElectrical/Mechanical/Hydraulic/Pneumatic system design and simulationData acquisition hardware and software experienceMust meet the requirements for obtaining US Government clearancePHYSICAL DEMANDS:Position requires light physical activityEXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:Daytime schedule Monday-Friday with infrequent night/weekend work for project surge support and additional effort as needed to achieve deadlinesSome travel as required or on-site customer workWhy Work With Us?We believe in more than just jobs—we build careers.
