Status: Full-Time | Travel Required Between Sites
We are looking for a reliable and adaptable Assistant Manager to support daily operations across multiple self-storage facilities in the Chicagoland area, with scheduled travel 1–2 days per week to our Milwaukee, WI location. This role plays a vital part in maintaining secure, clean, and well-functioning properties while delivering exceptional customer service.
Position Overview
This role serves as the on-site operational support for multiple self-storage facilities. The position is physically active and customer-focused, balancing hands-on facility upkeep with coordination alongside remote managers to ensure uninterrupted customer service. While on-site completing inspections, lock checks, walkthroughs, and cleaning projects, this role helps ensure customer calls and operational needs are supported through effective communication with the remote management team.
Key Responsibilities
Support daily facility operations, including rentals, move-ins, and move-outs, with a strong focus on hands-on, physical site management
Conduct routine property inspections, lock checks, and full facility walkthroughs to ensure security, cleanliness, and operational standards
Complete regular cleaning projects, including sweeping, trash removal, wiping doors, clearing debris, and preparing units to be move-in ready
Coordinate with remote managers to ensure incoming customer calls are answered and service levels remain consistent while on-site tasks are completed
Provide professional, customer-focused service to tenants both in person and remotely
Monitor facility systems such as lighting, gates, cameras, and keypads; report issues and escalate maintenance needs as needed
Maintain overall site appearance, including drive aisles, hallways, elevators, signage, and common areas
Document inspections, issues, and completed tasks using Microsoft Teams
Travel between assigned locations as required (mileage reimbursed); travel time may occasionally extend up to 2.5 hours each way
Perform additional duties and special projects that support overall facility operations
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
This position is physically demanding and requires regular movement throughout the property. Candidates must be able to:
Walk facilities multiple times per day, including stairs and long corridors
Bend, reach, kneel, and climb as needed for inspections and cleaning
Lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds (locks, trash, cleaning supplies, signage, light tools)
Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
Stand and remain active for extended periods during shifts
Requirements
Valid driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle.
Strong communication skills with a customer-first mindset.
Previous facility or property management experience preferred.
Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily communication, reporting, and documentation.
Ability to work independently across multiple locations while supporting the broader management team.
