The City is one of four "excluded cities" within Marion County, Lawrence maintains its own autonomous municipal government.Role DescriptionThe City of Lawrence is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Deputy Controller to oversee and support the financial operations of the municipal government. In this full-time, the Deputy Controller will work closely with the City Controller to manage budgets, ensure compliance with local, state and federal financial regulations, and oversee the preparation of financial reports. Key responsibilities include budget analysis, financial forecasting, managing audits, monitoring expenditures, daily operations, supervision of department staff, training, and meetings, This role also entails coordination with departments to ensure transparent financial operations and support for financial decision-making processes.QualificationsStrong accounting and financial management skills, including proficiency in budgeting, financial forecasting, and analysisThorough knowledge of municipal finance, government accounting standards, and compliance with relevant regulationsExperience in managing audits and drafting detailed financial reportsProficient in financial software systems and strong Excel skillsExcellent problem-solving, organizational, and analytical capabilitiesStrong interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with team members, departments, and stakeholdersLeadership and team management skills to oversee and support departmental staffBachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or Public Administration, or a related field required; CPA, CMA or similar certification is a plusPrevious experience in municipal or public sector finance is highly desirablePrevious experience in Accounts Receivable and Payables or Financial Analyst, desirablePerformance StandardsEmployees at all levels are expected to effectively work together to meet the needs of the organization and the community through work behaviors demonstrating the City’s Values.
