Applied Physical Sciences (APS) is looking for an experienced Assistant Program Manager to help manage projects in undersea and platform technology research, development, and low-rate production. The Assistant Program Manager will work closely with experienced Principal Investigators, who lead project technical development efforts, and will also help coordinate cross-functional teams including engineers, scientists, technicians, and government stakeholders to drive innovative solutions from concept to completion. Successful applicants will have experience tracking and managing project plans, finances, schedules, deliverables, and other contractual requirements on programs with demanding timelines and budgets, particularly in the areas of high technology engineering or defense. This role requires a dynamic, detail-oriented individual capable of coordinating teams, anticipating challenges, and ensuring alignment with government protocols and technical objectives.Tasks May IncludeWork closely with principal investigators and diverse technical teams to develop plans and monitor program executionTrack and manage project work scope, schedule, cost, deliverables, risks, and help coordinate resource planning of multiple parallel effortsPrepare detailed budgets, establish estimates-to-complete estimates, and assist in preparation of vendor RFPs and quotation packagesSupport integration and test of APS technologies with Navy systems Oversee, document, and record/report results from lab and field test eventsPrepare slides for customer meetings and help lead internal engineering meetings, take notes, and distribute actions Lead consolidation of technical data package(s) and other related deliverables and submission to the governmentSupport management of subcontractors and vendors through regular interaction, formal status updates, and on-site evaluations, including the disposition of defective hardware, subcontractor schedule risk mitigation, and evaluation of alternative technologies or componentsCoordinate compiling past performance data and new quotes in support of new proposalsReconciliation of subcontractor reported spending and invoicesRequired Attributes And SkillsBachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field3-5 years of project management experience, preferably in DoD R&D or production environmentsExcellent verbal and written communication in order to accurately document and report findings to colleagues, customers, vendors, etc. Exceptional organization skills, note taking, and following up on actions Proficiency in MS Project, MS Excel, and MS PowerPointExperience working in a multidisciplinary engineering environmentDesired Attributes And SkillsPMP certificationFamiliarity and experience with Enterprise Resource Planning tools encompassing project and resource planningStrong understanding of the defense industry, particularly undersea or maritime technologyExperience supporting low-rate production of technically complex hardwareActive security clearanceFamiliarity with SolidworksAPS, a wholly owned subsidiary of the General Dynamics Corporation, offers competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and comfortable working conditions.
