*Computer Vision Systems Developer* *Location:* Austin, TX *Position Type:* Contract to Hire *Compensation:* Competitive hourly rate based on experience *About Ascendant AI* Ascendant AI is an Austin-based drone engineering and manufacturing company developing unmanned aircraft systems and the hardware and software technologies that support them. We are looking for a Computer Vision Systems Developer to build and integrate real-time vision capabilities for UAV and autonomous system applications. This is not a research-only position. We are looking for someone who can take computer vision algorithms and turn them into working systems that operate with real cameras, processors and aircraft under real-world conditions. *What You’ll Do* Develop and integrate computer vision algorithms for UAV and autonomous system applications. Build real-time image and video processing pipelines. Work with object detection, classification, tracking, localization and related vision technologies. Integrate cameras and vision systems with embedded computing platforms. Optimize vision algorithms for real-time performance on resource constrained hardware. Work with electrical, embedded, mechanical and flight test engineers to integrate vision systems into aircraft. Collect, organize and evaluate image and flight test datasets. Develop tools for testing, visualization, debugging and performance evaluation. Troubleshoot issues involving cameras, processing hardware, latency, synchronization and image quality. Support field and flight testing and use test results to improve system performance. Document software architecture, interfaces, test procedures and performance. *What We’re Looking For* Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering or a related field. Professional experience developing computer vision systems. Strong proficiency in C++ and Python. Experience with OpenCV and modern computer vision frameworks. Experience with object detection, tracking, image processing or visual localization. Experience deploying computer vision workloads to embedded or edge computing hardware. Strong understanding of camera systems, image processing and real-time software. Experience with Linux development environments. Experience with NVIDIA Jetson, CUDA, TensorRT or similar embedded acceleration platforms is strongly preferred. UAV, robotics, autonomous systems or aerospace experience is a plus. Experience with ROS or ROS2 is a plus. This position requires regular onsite work at our Austin facility. *Position Details* This is a contract to hire position.
