Risk & Compliance Counsel (Hybrid/Remote) Our client, a sophisticated AmLaw 200 law firm, is seeking a Risk and Compliance Counsel to support the firm's broader risk management and professional responsibility functions. This attorney will work closely with the General Counsel to advise on conflicts of interest, ethics issues, and matters involving potential risk to the firm. This position is ideal for a lawyer with a litigation background who enjoys practical problem-solving, counseling attorneys across practice areas, and contributing to firmwide risk and ethics initiatives. Conflicts Analysis & Advisory Advise firm attorneys on conflicts of interest relating to new business intake, ongoing matters, and lateral candidates. Analyze conflicts involving current/former clients, affiliates, and related parties while applying the applicable Rules of Professional Conduct. Provide clear, actionable guidance to resolve conflicts efficiently while mitigating firm risk. Litigation & Claims Support Assist the General Counsel with responses to subpoenas and document requests, including scope analysis, document coordination, and drafting responses. Support the investigation, evaluation, and management of claims or potential claims against the firm. Prepare summaries, chronologies, and legal analyses related to disputes involving the firm. Waivers, Disclosures & Engagement Documents Draft and review conflict waivers, joint representation letters, and related disclosures. Advise attorneys on appropriate waiver and disclosure language. Assist with updating and maintaining firmwide engagement letter and waiver templates. Review outside counsel guidelines and client service agreements for compliance. Ethics & Risk Management Collaborate with the General Counsel on professional responsibility and risk management matters. Assist with implementing and monitoring ethical screens and related compliance processes. Support annual insurance renewal efforts. Stay current on developments in ethics rules and help communicate updates to attorneys and firm leadership. Work with risk management staff and administrative departments on firmwide initiatives. Support policy updates, training materials, and responses to inquiries from clients or insurers. Contribute to continuous improvement of conflicts and risk management processes suitable for an AmLaw 200 environment. Required Qualifications Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school. Active member in good standing of the California Bar, with 4–6 years of relevant experience , ideally including litigation, professional liability, or law firm risk management. Strong understanding of conflicts principles and the California Rules of Professional Conduct. Excellent legal analysis, communication, and writing skills. Ability to exercise sound judgment, manage sensitive issues, and collaborate with attorneys at all levels. Experience with conflicts/information intake systems preferred. Compensation Our client offers a competitive compensation and benefits package.
