Lead Bartender

Position: Lead Bartender Location: The Drifter – Chicago, IL Position Overview We are seeking an experienced, highly skilled Lead Bartender to help drive the bar program and elevate the guest experience at The Drifter. This role is both creative and operational—ideal for someone who is passionate about craft cocktails, thrives in a dynamic environment, and is excited to take ownership of both execution and team leadership. The Lead Bartender will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of our unique rotating cocktail concept while contributing to innovation, consistency, and staff development. Key Responsibilities Execute and oversee the preparation of high-quality craft cocktails with precision and consistency Help manage and evolve The Drifter’s signature “deck of drinks” program Lead by example behind the bar, setting the tone for professionalism, hospitality, and attention to detail Train, mentor, and support bartenders and bar staff to ensure excellence in technique and service Maintain deep knowledge of all spirits, ingredients, and preparation methods used in our program Collaborate with management on menu development, seasonal offerings, and product sourcing Ensure bar cleanliness, organization, and adherence to all health and safety standards Monitor inventory, assist with ordering, and minimize waste Engage guests with warmth and expertise, enhancing the storytelling aspect of the Drifter experience Qualifications 3+ years of bartending experience in a craft cocktail-focused environment (lead or supervisory experience preferred) Strong knowledge of classic and contemporary cocktails, spirits, and techniques Proven ability to lead a team in a high-volume, detail-driven setting Exceptional communication and organizational skills Passion for hospitality and creating memorable guest experiences Ability to work evenings, weekends, and late-night shifts Creative mindset with a desire to contribute to a unique, evolving beverage program How to Apply Please submit your resume along with a brief note describing your approach to hospitality and cocktail craftsmanship, and why you’re excited about The Drifter.
