About BarkReplyBarkReply is building the AI front desk for service businesses.Our platform handles calls, texts, WhatsApp, and web inquiries, identifies existing customers, and completes operational tasks such as booking appointments directly inside the software businesses already use.We started in pet care and grooming and are currently deployed with independent businesses and franchise locations.The RoleWe’re looking for an experienced engineer to work closely with our founder and engineering team on the systems behind BarkReply.This is a hands-on, part-time role focused on AI agents, backend architecture, integrations, reliability, and production systems.You’ll help us improve an already-live product rather than build a prototype from scratch.What You’ll Work OnBuild and improve integrations with scheduling, booking, and POS platformsImprove AI agent reliability across voice, SMS, and WhatsAppDesign robust APIs, webhooks, and asynchronous workflowsImprove evaluation, testing, observability, and failure recoveryHelp modularize and scale our backend architectureReview technical approaches and production changesBuild infrastructure that allows BarkReply to expand into new service industriesStackPython · FastAPI · PostgreSQL/Supabase · LangGraph · Twilio · OpenAI/Anthropic · Docker · REST APIs/WebhooksExperience with voice AI, telephony, agentic systems, or booking/POS integrations is a strong plus.Who We're Looking For4+ years of software engineering experienceStrong Python/backend engineering experienceExperience designing production APIs and integrationsComfortable working with PostgreSQL and distributed/asynchronous systemsStrong product judgment and ability to work independentlyExperience with LLMs or AI agents preferred, but not requiredComfortable working in an early-stage startup where you’ll have significant ownershipWe care more about shipping reliable systems and making good technical decisions than credentials or pedigree.CompensationPart-time paid engagement + meaningful equity opportunity, depending on experience and commitment.We’re particularly interested in someone who wants to become a long-term technical contributor as BarkReply grows.Hiring ProcessIntroductory conversation → technical/product discussion → small paid practical project → final conversation with the founder and engineering team.
