Network/Security Systems Engineer

*Position Overview* This position will have a *strong emphasis on IP video surveillance installation, network infrastructure, and system configuration*. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys working with technology in the field—not someone who wants to spend every day behind a desk. You will work at customer locations installing and configuring IP cameras, PoE switches, network equipment, firewalls, wireless systems, and video management systems. You will also be responsible for configuring the underlying network that allows these systems to operate reliably and securely. This position is a great fit for someone with a networking background who wants to expand into *physical security technology*, or for an experienced security/camera technician who has strong networking skills and wants to take on more technical responsibility. *VoIP experience is a significant plus*, as CMS also designs and supports business telephone and hosted VoIP systems. Key ResponsibilitiesIP Camera & Video Surveillance * Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot Cat6/Cat6A cabling for IP cameras and security systems * Physically install indoor and outdoor IP cameras, including mounting, aiming, focusing, and final positioning * Install and configure PoE switches and other network infrastructure supporting camera systems * Configure IP addresses, network settings, and camera parameters * Configure and deploy network video recorders (NVRs) and video management systems (VMS) * Configure video recording, retention, motion detection, analytics, and user permissions * Perform camera commissioning and system testing * Troubleshoot cameras that are offline, experiencing connectivity issues, or not recording properly * Perform system upgrades, camera replacements, and expansions of existing surveillance systems * Assist with site surveys and determine appropriate camera locations, mounting requirements, network requirements, and cable paths * Work with platforms such as Milesight, Orchid VMS, Digifort, and other IP-based security technologies Network Infrastructure * Design and configure networks supporting IP cameras, access control, VoIP, and other connected systems * Configure managed switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless equipment * Create and troubleshoot VLANs and network segmentation * Configure DHCP, DNS, routing, NAT, port forwarding, and VPN connectivity * Configure PoE infrastructure and troubleshoot power-related issues * Troubleshoot network connectivity, packet loss, latency, and bandwidth problems * Use network tools to diagnose physical and logical connectivity issues * Document network configurations, IP addressing, VLANs, and system topology * Assist with customer network upgrades and infrastructure improvements Security & Access Control Systems * Assist with installation and configuration of IP-based access control systems * Install and configure access control panels, readers, gateways, and related network equipment * Integrate security systems with customer networks and other technology platforms * Troubleshoot communication between security devices, servers, and cloud services * Assist with integrated security projects involving cameras, access control, panic buttons, intercoms, and other systems VoIP & Communications VoIP is not required, but experience in this area is highly desirable. * Assist with installation and configuration of hosted and on-premise VoIP systems * Configure SIP devices, phones, switches, and network infrastructure * Troubleshoot SIP, connectivity, audio quality, and QoS issues * Assist with SBC, firewall, VLAN, and QoS configurations * Support CMS customers with network and telecommunications issues *What We're Looking For* We are looking for someone who is *technically strong, hands-on, dependable, and comfortable working directly at customer locations.* Required * Experience with IP networking and network troubleshooting * Understanding of TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VLANs, subnetting, and routing * Experience configuring managed switches and network equipment * Hands-on experience with PoE networking * Ability to troubleshoot connectivity issues using tools such as ping, traceroute, cable testers, and network discovery/scanning tools * Ability to read basic network diagrams and installation drawings * Comfortable installing and working with network-connected equipment * Valid driver's license and reliable transportation * Ability to work from ladders and lifts when required for camera installation * Ability to occasionally lift and carry equipment, tools, ladders, and other materials Strongly Preferred * Experience installing and configuring IP surveillance cameras * Experience with NVRs or VMS platforms * Experience running and terminating Cat5e/Cat6 cabling * Experience with PoE switches * Experience with access control systems * Experience with firewalls and VPNs * Experience with wireless networking * VoIP/SIP experience * Experience with commercial security or low-voltage installations * Network+ or CCNA certification * Manufacturer certifications related to networking, surveillance, or security systems *The Right Person for This Job* The person we're looking for doesn't necessarily need to know every technology we use today. We're more interested in finding someone who understands *how IP networks work, knows how to troubleshoot problems, isn't afraid to get their hands dirty, and can learn new technology quickly.* You may spend one day configuring a managed switch and troubleshooting VLANs, the next day installing cameras at a commercial facility, and another day working on a VoIP or access control deployment. You should be comfortable figuring things out, asking questions when necessary, and taking ownership of a project from installation through successful completion. *Work Environment* This is a *hands-on field engineering position*. Work will take place both in the CMS office and at customer locations throughout Connecticut and occasionally surrounding New England states. Customer sites may include: * Commercial buildings * Schools and universities * Municipal facilities * Utilities and critical infrastructure * Manufacturing facilities * Apartment and residential communities * Nonprofit organizations * Retail and hospitality locations Some projects involve working outdoors, climbing ladders, working above ceilings, pulling cable, and installing equipment in locations that may require lifts.
