Transportation Specialist

A cover letter, resume, and list of references is required.The work of Wyoming Independent Living is grounded on the Independent Living (IL) philosophy which maintains that persons with disabilities are the best judges of their service needs and how to receive those services. IL services are intended to assist consumers to attain the highest degree of independence and self-reliance possible.Wyoming Independent Living is responsible for providing the five core services of a Center for Independent Living:Information and referral (I & R)Independent living skills trainingPersonal and systems advocacyPeer support, andTransition services to youth and adultsThe Transportation Specialist works with consumers to develop Individualized Transportation Plans that reflect the consumers' transportation needs, goals, and preferences. Program Specialists work with consumers to ensure compliance with program rules. The Transportation Specialist will work with area providers, human services agencies, and state agencies to coordinate transportation services in their district and beyond. The Specialist will also document their work in service records and reports to the Program Manager. The Specialists are expected to network with agencies and transportation providers, conduct community outreach, and education activities throughout their designated service area to promote WIL services and enhance transportation options.SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE:Performing comprehensive consumer visits to establish individual transportation goals and plans to increase independencePrioritize and organize workload and scheduleEnsuring that consumers function within the program rules and guidelinesMaintaining accurate and timely consumer recordsPreparing reports and completing agency paperwork within established deadlinesConducting community outreach and education activitiesPromoting interagency collaboration to improve service delivery systems for people with disabilitiesTraveling throughout the designated district to meet with consumers and other stakeholdersParticipating in staff training and related conferences/conventionsOther duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONSBachelor's Degree in social services or related field preferredPersonal experience with a disability is preferredAbility to enter/exit consumer homes, nursing homes, hospitals, and other community organizationsUnderstanding and commitment to the IL philosophySelf-starter, organized, and capable of working independentlyStrong interpersonal skills and ability to interact positively and work effectively with othersGood oral and written communication skillsBasic computer skills in web-based and PC software, email, fax, and copierReliable vehicle to travel within designated service area
