Health Center Nurse - LPN

Job Description The Health Center Nurse is part of the Health Services team and works with other team members to provide a complete health services program. The Health Center Nurse reports to the Director of Health Services. This is a nursing position within a busy school health center that requires excellent clinical skills and judgment. The Health Center provides a full range of primary care services. Hours are typically 8 am - 4 pm, including weekends and some evening hours. This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following: * Assists with monitoring the health of the Darrow community * Works with the Director of Health Services and/or School Nurse to collect student medications, safely store medications, organize medications for distribution by AODs and House Parents, meticulously maintain medication logs, and administer medications. * Enters data into the electronic medical record database * Performs lab testing for students and faculty (phlebotomy, PCR, Point of Care Testing, etc.) * Other administrative, clerical, or healthcare duties, as assigned * Agrees to follow New York State Education Law Section 6902, which provides the legal definitions of LPNs. * You will follow all School Policies applicable to your position, including, but not limited to: the Employee and Health Services Handbooks, Health Services Standing Orders, Policies, Procedures, and Protocols. Your clinical practice will be supervised by the Director of Health Services or a properly licensed designee. Required Skills/Qualifications: * Valid New York State LPN License required (or willingness to obtain) * Current BLS Certification required * Valid driver's license and willingness to transport students to appointments and the pharmacy as required * Knowledge of current principles and practices of nursing standards of care * Knowledge of occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogen standards and operational procedures * Experience in emergency nursing, primary pediatric, and/or school health nursing preferred * Physical assessment/data collection, emergency nursing, counseling, and health teaching skills * Ability to relate and provide healthcare for boys and girls ages 13- 20 * Computer skills and the ability to use electronic health records are essential * Ability to function as an interdisciplinary team member * Ability to exercise excellent judgment and maintain confidentiality * Ability to perform phlebotomy and ECGs. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential responsibilities of this position. * While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear * The employee is required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to find, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms * Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds * Must be able to work in the heat and cold as well as environments with adverse conditions, including dirt, dust, and pollen, odors, sun, wetness, humidity, rain, and noise Pay: Hourly rate starting at $35 per hour / negotiable based upon experience, certification, and licensure. Up to 20 hours per week. No benefits.
