Broadwind Heavy Fabrications is searching for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Abilene, TX. This role is responsible for supporting the organization via engineering and design of projects and fixtures in order to deliver projects on time and to the customer’s expectations. The Engineer will be involved in the project from estimation to production. Come join our team!
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (May include some or all of the following responsibilities)
Support all manufacturing processes and developments through quality engineering and design
Create manufacturing data from customer requirements and specifications
Assist in developing cost estimates to manufacture a new or redesigned product
Performs engineering changes to drawings, standard work and work aids
Translates PDF drawings into 3-dimensional solid models
Perform all necessary engineering calculations
Design and develop jigs, fixtures and tolling for production
Provide technical information supporting best practices
Communicate with business development, supply chain and production to identify possible problems, obstacles and other situations that may impact customer target dates
Document design narratives & engineering analysis
Exchange ideas, information, or other technical advice
Develop and implement process improvements
Performs additional duties as required to support the desired end goal
Academic/Experience/Credentials/Certifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required
May consider years of specific and documented experience in lieu of degree
Master’s degree in engineering, business or related field is a plus
5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering or other related fields required
Experience with a combination of the following is required:
Manufacturing Engineering - metal fabrication, heavy weldments, industrial painting, assembly
Manufacturing designs, fixtures, tooling, schematics and tolerances
Welding – MIG, TIG, Sub Arc
BOM (Bill of Materials)
Blueprint reading
Robust skill level with CAD programs and drafting required; Solidworks 3D experience preferred (a current release); Solidworks EDOM file management software a plus
Must possess valid driver’s license and proof of insurance
Specialized skills/knowledge/ability:
Solid understanding of stress and deflection analysis and FEA is desired
Knowledge of nesting software – Pronest a plus
Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
Ability to prioritize and multitask
Able to clearly communicate details and project requirements
Familiar with Lean Principles, continuous improvement or Six Sigma
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and will a variety of people and levels
Able to think through/analyze potential problems and present ideas and suggestion to leader
Strong attention to detail
