Orientation and Mobility Specialist in Baltimore, MD

An opportunity is available for two full-time Orientation and Mobility Specialists to support students in a school setting located in Baltimore, Maryland. This contract position involves working onsite to provide specialized mobility training and orientation services to visually impaired students, enabling them to navigate their environments safely and independently.Key Responsibilities:Conduct comprehensive orientation and mobility assessments for students with visual impairments.Develop and implement individualized mobility training plans tailored to each student's needs.Teach techniques for safe travel and effective use of adaptive tools and technologies.Collaborate closely with educators, families, and related service providers to enhance student outcomes.Monitor progress and adjust strategies as necessary to meet evolving student goals.Maintain detailed documentation and comply with school and contractual requirements.Qualifications and Desired Experience:Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS or equivalent).Proven experience working within school settings, preferably involving diverse student populations.Strong knowledge of mobility aids, environmental concepts, and relevant technology for the visually impaired.Effective communication skills for interacting with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams.Ability to work independently and manage caseloads efficiently.Commitment to fostering student independence and safety.Location: This position is based onsite in Baltimore, Maryland, providing direct engagement with students in the school environment.Benefits:Opportunity to impact student independence and quality of life.Collaborative work environment with dedicated education professionals.Contract role with full-time hours, allowing focused attention on student services.Interested candidates with the required certification and passion for orientation and mobility services are encouraged to apply to contribute to empowering students through expert mobility instruction.
