Engine Development Test Engineer
Control Systems Inc. (CSI) is seeking a highly motivated Engine Development Test Engineer to support the development, validation, and optimization of advanced engine and control system technologies. In this role, you will be responsible for planning and executing engine test programs, integrating and validating control systems, and analyzing performance data to ensure engines meet customer, regulatory, and internal quality standards.Working at the intersection of hardware and control systems, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including controls engineering, software development, and product engineering to deliver robust, high-performance solutions. The ideal candidate combines strong hands-on engine testing experience with a solid understanding of control systems, data acquisition, and system integration.This position plays a critical role in CSI’s mission to deliver innovative, reliable, and efficient control solutions for engine and powertrain applications across a range of industries.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and execute engine test plans for performance, durability, emissions, and fuel efficiencySet up and operate engine dynamometer (dyno) test systems and related instrumentationMonitor engine parameters such as temperature, pressure, speed, torque, and emissionsAnalyze test data and generate detailed reports with findings and recommendationsTroubleshoot engine issues during testing and propose corrective actionsSupport calibration and optimization of engine control systems (ECU/EMS)Coordinate with cross-functional teams including design, and manufacturingMaintain test equipment and ensure proper calibration of sensors and instrumentsDocument test procedures, results, and lessons learnedRequired QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field2–5+ years of experience in engine testing or powertrain development (varies by level)Strong understanding of internal combustion engines and thermodynamicsExperience with engine dynamometers and data acquisition systemsExperience with CAN communication and diagnostic toolsProficiency with engine control systems and calibration tools (e.g., INCA, CANape)Knowledge of combustion and engine performance Knowledge of data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Excel, LabVIEW, or similar)Preferred QualificationsBachelors degree in a related field or relevant experience Experience with hybrid or electric powertrain testingKnowledge of combustion analysis tools and techniquesProgramming/scripting skills (Python, MATLAB, etc.)Experience with CAN communication and diagnostic toolsKey SkillsAnalytical and problem-solving skillsAttention to detailStrong communication and technical reporting abilitiesHands-on mechanical aptitudeAbility to work in lab/test cell environmentsWork EnvironmentTesting heavy position Primarily lab-based in engine test cellsExposure to noise, heat, fuel, and mechanical systemsMay require shift work or extended hours during testing phases
