Manager, Investment Accounting

Job Summary Manager, Investment Accounting – Columbus, Ohio (hybrid, two days per week in office).Key Responsibilities Lead a team of 4 direct reports, coordinating the accumulation, preparation, and maintenance of investment accounting records for internal and external reporting.Oversee development of financial statements according to prescribed schedules.Prepare, review, and recommend improvements in investment accounting and financial reporting systems.Lead and/or participate in special projects and assignments as directed by senior management.Review and analyze statements and supplemental data for external and management reporting purposes.Collaborate with internal auditors, public accountants, federal tax examiners, and other external parties to perform investment accounting functions.Coordinate preparation of special reports, analyses, and financials as requested by management.Represent the Director, as assigned, for development and workflow assistance.Manage associates, including performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow planning, hiring, placement, and disciplinary actions.Reporting Relationships Reports to Investment Accounting Director/Officer and manages a team of 6 or more accounting professionals.Typical Skills and Experiences Undergraduate degree in accounting or finance (preferred: accounting degree).CPA studies preferred.Eight years of investment accounting experience with an insurance company or financial institution, including management and supervision experience.Knowledge of GAAP, insurance/financial product regulatory requirements, and investment, tax, property/casualty, life, and/or subsidiary investment accounting.Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with all levels of associates, business unit leadership, and external parties such as public accountants and state examiners.Additional leadership skills and competencies may take precedence.
