Instrument & Control Technician

Job Duties: The Instrument and Control Department is responsible for the testing, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of instrumentation and control systems in the electric generation facilityTesting, troubleshooting, programming, and maintenance of computer-based control systems (distributed control systems and PLC based control systems).Testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of pneumatic based controlAnalyze plant processes and equipment, recommend equipment upgradesInterpret control logic drawings, schematics, and electricalCoordinate work with coworkers, employees in other departments, and/or externalcollecting/calculating data; calibrating and testing in the field; maintaining and repairing equipment; calibrating instrumentsPreparing engineering drawings, finished drawings, environmental testing; developing and troubleshooting computer systems; laboratory testing; and performing standard calculations.Maintains and troubleshoots electronic, electrical, mechanical, and other equipment for electric generation plant systems.Repairs, calibrates and/or programs electronicResolves computer hardware and softwareOperates and maintains electronic equipment, diagnostic instruments, and software in performance of assigned duties, specifically: computers, volt meters, amp meters, electrical tools, telemetering, and process control software.Interprets reports, electrical diagrams, control logic diagrams, and maintains documentationConsults with manufacturers' service technicians, contractors, and vendor representatives to discuss problems, schedule installs, and evaluate costs for necessary parts, suppliesReviews, edits, develops, manages, and interprets documents and drawings utilized for the purposes of maintaining, constructing, testing, and removing equipment and facilities for plantConsults with supervisors, operators, technicians, manufacturers, vendors, subject matter experts and engineers to review assigned area needs, discuss problems, prioritize work, and provide technical expertise.The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneelDuties involve moving materials weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis such as pumps, valves, motors, gauges, other operating or lab equipment, books, paper, laptop computer, etc., and may infrequently require moving materials weighing up to 40 The recommended maximum weight for employees to lift without the aid of other employees or a lifting device is 35 pounds.Qualifications:Associates degree in the requisite scientific or technical field (48 scientific or technical credit hours as measured on a semester basis).The 48 scientific or technical credit hours can be obtained through colleges, technical institutes, licensed apprenticeship programs, trade schools, military programs, etc.College Degree focusing in Electronic, Electrical, and/or Computer EngineeringAbility to work in an industrial surrounding including high and low temperatureClimb laddersComputer ProficientWork as a team or alone depending on the needs of the teamSelf-motivated and organized.Flexible and able to manage multiple tasks and shiftingUse basic test equipment: Digital voltage meter, Oscilloscope, Emerson Ovation DCS experience.PLC programmingHART programmer experienceBenefits:Healthcare Insurance: Synectics offers eligible employees and their dependents healthcare coverage through BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois. In determining the bonus amount, Synectics will consider the cost of the test(s) for any certification relating to your current position, achieved during your employment with us. Only one Certification Bonus per calendar year may be awarded per employee. Only current, active employees will be eligible to receive this bonus. It will be awarded 90 days after the Synectics office has received documentation confirming the successful completion of the certification.
