Cloud and Infrastructure EngineerCary, NC (intial On-site, then hybrid)LOCAL CANDIDATES ONLY, PLEASE!!3 months+ contractNo H1B and CPTvirtual + F2FThis is NOT a DevOps role! !Cloud and Infrastructure EngineerSeeking a Cloud and Infrastructure Engineer to serve as a technical expert responsible for designing, supporting, and optimizing the district's cloud and on-premises infrastructure. This role ensures the environment remains secure, highly available, scalable, and aligned with modern engineering standards. The individual must have strong cloud, infrastructure, networking, wireless, and switching skills and the ability to guide long-term architectural decisions.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, support, and improve cloud and on-premises infrastructure systems.Develop and maintain cloud architecture, identity services, and security best practices.Support the modernization of network, wireless, and switching infrastructures.Monitor performance, capacity, uptime, and overall system resiliency.Contribute to long-term infrastructure and cloud strategy and technology roadmaps.Ensure compliance with security frameworks and operational standards.Troubleshoot complex cloud, network, and infrastructure issues across environments.Required Technical SkillsCloud & Virtual Infrastructure Hands-on experience with AWS and/or Azure services.Strong understanding of cloud-native patterns-serverless, microservices, containers.Experience with virtualization platforms and identity management technologies.Knowledge of high availability, disaster recovery, backup strategies, and resiliency methods.Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Bicep).Networking, Wireless & Switching Strong understanding of enterprise LAN/WAN architecture, routing, and switching (L2/L3).Expertise with VLANs, trunking, network segmentation, QoS, and redundancy protocols (HSRP, VRRP, STP).Experience with wireless infrastructure, including RF design, AP placement, controller-based WLAN, and wireless performance optimization.Familiarity with SD-WAN, load balancers, firewalls, VPNs, and secure remote access.Ability to design and support switching topologies, PoE/PoE+ requirements, cabling standards, and network resiliency.Understanding of core networking services: DNS, DHCP, NAT, CDN, and network monitoring tools.Security & Compliance Knowledge of frameworks such as NIST, CIS, and ISO.Strong grasp of identity and access management and encryption best practices.Familiarity with cloud security posture management tools and techniques.Experience Requirements 5+ years of cloud engineering, infrastructure engineering, or enterprise networking experience.Experience supporting large-scale systems or educational/enterprise environments preferred.Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex multi-domain technical issues.Preferred Certifications AWS Solutions Architect or Azure Solutions ArchitectCCNA/CCNP or equivalent networking certificationCloud or security certifications such as AZ-500, CCSP, Security+Cost & Commercial AwarenessStrong knowledge of cloud pricing models, including reserved instances, spot/preemptible pricing, and consumption-based billing.Ability to critically evaluate vendor cost estimates and TCO models, identifying unrealistic or inflated proposals.Skilled in detecting hidden commercial risks and cost exposure before financial commitments are made.Applies FinOps principles to continuously optimize cloud spend without compromising performance or reliability
