Assistant Service Manager

This position assists the Service Manager with running the Service Department. Provide a vital communication link between the service department and other departments in the company. This position leads and directs the service technicians to ensure all repairs are performed correctly and efficiently.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assist Service Manager with conducting the flow of all service work, technician accountability, vehicle repair completion, documentation and continuous communication Understanding and ensuring compliance with all vendor policies and warranty procedures Maintaining high quality service repairs to minimize comebacks Investigating the progress of vehicle repair completion by conducting periodic spot checks of all jobs throughout the day to ensure timely repairs and quality workmanship Contacting customers regarding any additions or changes to the repair of their vehicle, if required Explaining cost and time requirements in detail, and getting the proper authorization before any additional repairs are made Keeping abreast of all warranty policies and product changes to maintain effectiveness in this role Providing on-the-job technical support for technicians as required and assisting in the development of their technical skills and abilities Ensuring all repairs are documents, technicians’ comments are descriptive and precise, and that the allotted time is noted prior to submission for closing Ensuring that all vehicles are road tested when required and that the repairs were completed correctly Reviewing and signing off an all completed repair orders noting technician comments, technician sign off, repair completion and road test completion Understanding and keeping abreast of all federal, state, and local regulations that affect service operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA and EPA Maintain a safe and clean work environment Attend all Safety Committee meetings Under the guidance and assistance of the Operations Manager, Service Manager and Human Resources, discipline of Service Department employees up to and including termination of employment Assist with the hiring process of Service Department employees Enforce all Company policies and procedures Other duties as assignedEducation and/or Work Experience Requirements: Minimum of 5 years technical experience in the medium/heavy duty truck industry Valid Class “A” CDL preferred Must be able to understand, communicate, and evaluate all vendor and International Warranty guidelines, approval processes and policies Must be a team player with a strong sense of commitment to the customer Must be self-motivated Must be flexible and adapt to change readily Must have superior problem solving skills Good organizational skills Strive for respect and facilitate teamwork within the departmentBenefits: Competitive Hourly Wage Medical Insurance Dental and Vision Company paid for Short & Long Term Disability and Life Insurance 401(k) with company match (dollar for dollar up to 4%) Holiday Pay PTO Pay Career GrowthMidwest Transit Equipment is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
