Remote Tax Professional About the RoleAdvisorOne is a remote-first, boutique CPA firm specializing in CFO advisory, financial accounting, and tax strategy for SMB clients. We're growing our tax practice and looking for a detail-oriented Tax Associate to join our team in a hybrid role that bridges tax preparation support and client services.This position is built for someone with a working knowledge of tax return preparation who is ready to contribute meaningfully from day one — handling tax data entry, supporting client communication, and keeping our practice management workflows running smoothly. You'll work directly alongside our senior tax preparer, taking on structured data entry and return assembly tasks while owning day-to-day client correspondence and Canopy administration. This is a high-impact role during tax season and a strong platform for continued growth within the firm year-round.What You'll OwnTax Preparation Support — Data Entry & Return Assembly•      Enter client tax data accurately into return preparation software from source documents (W-2s, 1099s, K-1s, Schedule C records, business returns)•      Assemble and organize tax return workpapers, ensuring all supporting documents are present and properly filed•      Prepare draft returns for senior preparer review, flagging incomplete information or discrepancies before they hit review•      Process extension requests and estimated tax payment documentation•      Support straightforward 1040 preparation under senior preparer supervision — with a clear path to owning returns independently as you rampClient Communication & Relationship Support•      Manage the client email inbox and respond to routine inquiries on document status, refund timelines, deadline reminders, and signature requests•      Handle routine outbound calls — status updates, document follow-ups, scheduling coordination•      Draft and send client communications using firm-approved templates and protocols•      Escalate complex tax questions and sensitive client matters to the senior preparer promptly•      Keep a professional, responsive, client-first tone across every touchpointPractice Management — Canopy Administration•      Own day-to-day Canopy administration: client files, task statuses, return progress, and workflow queues•      Process billing entries and client invoices in coordination with the billing preparer•      Manage engagement letters, organizer distribution, and document collection tracking•      Generate Canopy reports on return status, workflow bottlenecks, and billing summaries as requestedYou're Perfect If✓ You have 1–3 years of hands-on experience with tax return preparation or tax data entry, ideally in public accounting or a tax services environment✓ You're comfortable with individual (1040) return structure and common source documents (W-2, 1099, Schedule C, K-1)✓ You're comfortable with business (1065, 1120S, 1120) return structure and business financial statements✓ You bring strong written and verbal communication skills — you'll be a primary point of contact for clients✓ You're detail-obsessed and accurate when working with financial data — small mistakes are real consequences in tax✓ You're proficient with Microsoft Office and comfortable learning new platforms quickly✓ You handle sensitive client financial information with discretion and professionalismBonus PointsExperience with professional tax software (UltraTax, Lacerte, ProConnect)Familiarity with Canopy or similar practice management platformsBilling system / invoicing experienceEA designation, CPA candidate, or AFSP participationPrior client-facing communication experience in tax or financial servicesWhy AdvisorOne?Remote-first | Founder-led, values-driven culture | Boutique CPA firm with SMB depth | Direct exposure to the full lifecycle of a tax practice — from client onboarding through filing | Clear growth path from data entry into independent preparation and beyond | A team that invests in people who show up with initiative, care about getting things right, and want to growAdvisorOne is committed to diversity and inclusion and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
