Refrigeration Lead Installer & Start Up Technician

APPLY HERE We are seeking a skilled and experienced Refrigeration Systems Installation Technician to install, commission, and support the startup of commercial refrigeration and HVAC-related cooling systems delivered by our construction team. This role focuses on the installation of one-to-one split systems, multi-head systems, and VRF/VRV equipment, ensuring all refrigeration piping, connections, and commissioning steps meet manufacturer standards, code requirements, and company quality expectations. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in refrigeration installation, demonstrates precision in workmanship, and takes pride in delivering high-quality, reliable installations. This role includes coaching and mentoring less experienced installers, ensuring team proficiency in proper brazing, line-set installation, evacuation processes, pressure testing, and best practices in system startup. Pay range: $30 - 40 per hour, based on experience Requirements+ This position will work on projects throughout Vermont with some projects in Plattsburgh and Elizabethtown, NY. Essential Job Duties Refrigeration Installation & Commissioning Install refrigeration line sets, branch boxes, indoor/outdoor units, and all associated components for one-to-one, multi-head, and VRF/VRV systems. Perform proper brazing, nitrogen purging, pressure testing, triple evacuations, and system charging in compliance with industry standards. Conduct complete system startups, verifying correct electrical connections, controls, refrigerant levels, airflow, and overall system performance. Document installation steps, test results, and startup data to ensure accurate commissioning records. Leadership, Training & Quality Control Provide coaching and hands-on guidance to junior installers and helpers to ensure consistent, high-quality workmanship. Review and verify work performed by team members, maintaining high standards for safety, neatness, and technical accuracy. Assist in planning installation sequences, material needs, and layout to ensure efficient and successful project execution. Communicate with project managers, engineering, and customers regarding project status, issues, and startup results. Safety & Compliance Follow all company safety policies and OSHA guidelines. Ensure compliance with EPA 608 requirements and manufacturer installation instructions. Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles in clean and safe working order. Qualifications & Skills: EPA 608 Certification (Type II or Universal). 3+ years of experience installing refrigeration or VRF/VRV systems. Strong brazing skills with nitrogen purging. Ability to run and support the installation of refrigeration line sets. Experience performing pressure tests, deep triple evacuations, and refrigerant charging. Capability to perform and document full system startups. Ability to coach, mentor, and guide less experienced installers. Valid driver's license and clean driving record. Preferred Qualifications Manufacturer certifications (Daikin, Mitsubishi, LG, Fujitsu, etc.). Experience in commercial HVAC or mechanical contracting environments. Ability to read technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and piping schematics. Compensation & Benefits: Competitive hourly wage or salary based on experience, plus overtime opportunities.
