Accounting Position in Juneau, Alaska This position is open to Alaska residents only. Please check our residency definition to determine if you qualify. What You Will Be Doing This position is a full-proficiency, professional-level role within the Division of Retirement and Benefits (DRB). You will analyze, summarize, and report financial data; maintain internal controls; and provide financial oversight of key accounting functions. You will supervise the daily operations of 6 Retiree Payroll and Refunds section staff, supporting the processing of all retiree benefit payments and refund distribution requests for all retirement funds administered by the Division. Using your accounting expertise, you will resolve complex issues and provide guidance on the practical application of DRB procedures and techniques to best serve our clients. The position is responsible for multiple account reconciliations and for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of related financial information. In this role, you will also learn the principles of fund accounting and gain experience with the timely remittance of federal income tax to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) along with all associated IRS tax reporting requirements. These accounting responsibilities will help build a strong foundation of skills that support future promotional opportunities. The mission of the Finance section/Accounting unit is to provide timely and accurate financial reporting for the retirement plans administered by the division. The Working Environment You Can Expect This position is located at 400 Willoughby, across the street from the State Office Building in beautiful downtown Juneau. The office hours are typically between 7:30 and 4:00 or 8:00 and 4:30 Monday through Friday.
