General Manager (GM) – Retail Construction Division Job Mission Statement The General Manager (GM) – Retail Construction Division - at Place Services ensures operational, financial, and cultural excellence across their assigned division. This role aligns project delivery with strategic business goals, drives client success, and cultivates high-performing teams. As the critical link between field operations and executive leadership, the GM plays a pivotal role in executing company strategy on the ground.Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, success in this role is measured across key indicators, including financial performance, project execution, client satisfaction, process/policy adherence, team development, sales effectiveness, and safety outcomes.Responsibilities 1. Lead Division Culture and Team DevelopmentModel professionalism, accountability, and care to foster a high-performance, collaborative culture.Oversee the full employee lifecycle, including hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management, and retention.Conduct structured performance reviews, mentor high-potential talent, and build promotable leadership pipelines.Serve as a key liaison between field operations and executive leadership to ensure cultural and strategic alignment.KPIs: employee engagement scores, team retention, number of team promotions2. Ensure Operational Execution and Process ExcellenceChampion adherence to PSI’s Proven Process and EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) framework.Lead job handoffs, project reviews, and cross-phase communications to maintain operational continuity.Drive operational improvements through workflow simplification, process standardization, and consistent field execution.KPIs: on-time completion rate, schedule adherence, proven process compliance audits.3. Own Division Financial PerformanceDevelop and manage divisional budgets, analyze variances, and uphold financial discipline.Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as revenue, margins, backlog, overhead, and cash flow.Promote financial literacy through dashboards, scorecards, and coaching sessions with team leaders.KPIs: net divisional income vs. budget, gross margin, cash flow, overhead %.4. Drive Client Success and Strategic GrowthServe as the senior escalation point for client concerns, ensuring timely and professional resolution.Build long-term client relationships to drive retention, referrals, and repeat business.Define market focus, contribute to sales and estimating efforts, and pursue profitable growth aligned with company strategy.KPIs: net promoter scores (NPS), repeat business rate, win rate, divisional YoY growth %5. Ensure Risk, Safety, and Compliance StandardsIdentify and mitigate legal, operational, and financial risks across the division through contract management, policy/procedure adherence, communications, and sub-contractor and client relations.Champion a proactive field safety culture, ensuring OSHA compliance and adherence to internal audit protocols.Resolve complex issues involving clients, vendors, and internal teams to protect company interests.KPIs: OSHA Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR), risk escalation rate, field audit scores.Qualifications 15+ years of construction experience and 5+ years of operational or general management experience.Bachelor’s degree in construction management, business administration, engineering, or a related field preferred.Demonstrated success managing budgets, financial KPIs, and business performance metrics.Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, including field, office, and support roles, with clarity and accountability.Experience enforcing or improving standardized processes across projects or departments.Track record of direct people management, including performance reviews, coaching, and team development.Strong communication skills with the ability to lead through influence, resolve conflict, and represent company values internally and externally.Experience using or implementing EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System), Lean Construction, or similar operational frameworks.Prior P&L ownership and strategic involvement in division-level planning or market growth initiatives.Familiarity with systems such as Procore, Viewpoint, or construction-specific ERPs for field and financial management.History of building or scaling teams, systems, or business units — “builder mindset.”Experience driving or supporting sales and client development efforts, particularly in construction or service-driven industries.About PSI Over the past 20 years, PSI has grown from a small carpentry business to a national construction company exceeding $400M in annual revenue.
