AMI Network TechnicianField-Based RF / Utility AMI MaintenanceAbout the RoleOur company is seeking an AMI Network Technician to support and maintain Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) for utility customers throughout Ohio. This is a hands-on, field-based position focused on AMI maintenance, RF troubleshooting, equipment replacement, and software-driven diagnostics supporting a long-term statewide utility program.The ideal candidate enjoys working in the field, solving technical problems, and using technology to maintain and improve utility communication networks. This individual will work directly with AMI infrastructure, including collectors, RF communication equipment, and smart metering devices, utilizing proprietary software and diagnostic tools to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve network issues.Key ResponsibilitiesInstall, maintain, and replace AMI network equipment including collectors, RF endpoints, and smart meters.Perform field-based equipment replacement ("rip-and-replace") on faulty or outdated hardware.Troubleshoot RF communication and AMI network issues using proprietary software, diagnostic tools, and documented procedures.Utilize PC-based applications to:Identify malfunctioning meters and RF endpoints.Verify network connectivity and communication performance.Document troubleshooting steps, repairs, and completed work.Collaborate with utility customers, supervisors, and internal technical teams to:Support the ongoing maintenance of the State of Ohio AMI network.Communicate recurring issues and recommend long-term improvements.Assist with continuous process improvement by:Refining troubleshooting procedures.Identifying opportunities to improve network reliability and field operations.Follow all company safety policies, utility regulations, and field service procedures.Travel throughout Ohio as needed to support maintenance, troubleshooting, and deployment activities.Required QualificationsField ExperienceExperience in one or more of the following:AMI deployments or smart meter installationUtility field serviceIndustrial electrical infrastructureRF communication systemsWireless field hardwareRF KnowledgeWorking knowledge of:RF signal strengthCoverage and propagationSignal interferenceEnvironmental impacts on RF performanceComputer SkillsComfortable using Windows-based computersAbility to quickly learn proprietary software and diagnostic applicationsExperience documenting field activities electronicallyTroubleshooting AbilityStrong analytical and investigative problem-solving skillsComfortable working through non-scripted technical issuesAble to independently diagnose and resolve field problemsAdaptabilityOpen to learning new technologies and evolving proceduresWillingness to embrace process improvementsCommunicationClear written documentation skillsProfessional verbal communication with customers, supervisors, and internal teamsCareer InterestDesire to build a long-term career supporting utility infrastructure and AMI technologyPreferred QualificationsExperience as a:AMI Deployment TechnicianMeter TechnicianMeter InstallerUtility Field TechnicianUtility Foreman or SupervisorExperience working with:Utility subcontractorsJohnson ControlsEnvocorUPASimilar industrial or utility service organizationsTechnical familiarity with:Smart metersCollectorsAMI systemsSmart Grid technologiesRF test equipmentBasic networking conceptsMilitary veterans with experience in:ElectronicsCommunicationsSignal systemsTechnical maintenanceTelecommunicationsare highly encouraged to apply.Attributes for SuccessThe successful candidate will demonstrate:Hands-on mechanical and technical aptitudeStrong curiosity and a proactive approach to problem solvingAdaptability and coachabilityPersonal ownership and accountabilityExcellent teamwork and collaboration skillsCommitment to safety and quality workmanshipWork EnvironmentThis is a field-based position requiring travel throughout Ohio to support utility customers and AMI infrastructure.Work may include:Outdoor environmentsUtility facilitiesWorking around energized electrical equipmentLifting equipmentClimbing as requiredOccasional after-hours or weekend maintenance during critical utility operations
