It supports all individuals-regardless of identity, culture, point of view, or background-as they navigate the challenges associated with their educational goals. With a focus on major gateway courses, certified peer tutors work alongside each student to foster serious academic exploration and inspire lifelong learning.Summary of ResponsibilitiesTutor students (individually and in groups) by appointment and/or drop-in, in assigned courses and content material.On top of face-to-face tutoring, tutors may be assigned to the online tutoring lab or in other labs across campus.Participate in required tutor training and certification.Tutors are also expected to contribute to certain Academic Tutoring initiatives like conducting class visits, creating and updating handouts, designing workshops, and contributing to end of the year events.Qualifications / Licenses / CertificationsMust be a current UVU studentMinimum 3.0 GPAGrade B or higher in FIN 3100 and ECON 2010Preferred Qualifications Grade B or higher in ACC 2019, ECON 3030, MGMT 2240, and MGMT 2340 or MGMT 2400Grade B or higher in upper-division Finance and Economics coursesDemonstrates familiarity with other courses offered by the Woodbury School of BusinessKnowledge / Skills / AbilitiesEffective tutors are:Knowledgeable about a wide range of Economics and Finance contentWell-versed in study skills and strategiesCreative problem solvers who can find new approaches to challengesExcellent communicators who can adapt their teaching for a variety of needs and backgroundsReliable, has strong time and task-management skillsFamiliar with available student resources on campusEffective tutors can: Collaborate with students to enhance their content knowledgeCommunicate complex ideas and concepts in a clear, concise, and friendly mannerRead, write, and otherwise convey ideas in EnglishMaintain confidentialityCultivate professional relationships with staff, faculty, and studentsContribute to the smooth operation of the tutoring labsParticipate in on-going trainingsEEO Statement:UVU employment decisions are made on the basis of an applicant's qualifications and ability to perform the job without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age (40 and over), disability, veteran status, pregnancy, childbirth, or pregnancy-related conditions, genetic information, or other bases protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.Student positions are ineligible from the university's full-time employee benefits package and part-time offerings.For more information on services offered to students, visit https://www.uvu.edu/studentlife/.01Are you a current UVU student?YesNo02Please enter your UVID.03Do you have a minimum GPA of 3.0?YesNo04Have you received a grade B or higher in FIN 3100 and ECON 2010?YesNo
