Senior Systems Engineer
Overview
Senior Systems Engineer at Parallel Systems interfaces with customers and end users to define the product, architect systems, and lead verification. You bridge vehicle hardware with command-and-control software, integrate with existing train-control systems, and guide the next generation of autonomous rail operations. You will shape requirements, trade studies, and validation campaigns to deliver safe, reliable, and scalable rail solutions. This role offers impact across hardware, software, and safety-critical processes in a mission to modernize freight.
ResponsibilitiesDefine high level needs, goals, and objectives based on business and customer desiresDevelop product plans and roadmaps and guide team execution to those plansLead trade studies to determine best implementation of productDevelop system architecture, concepts of operation, and requirementsDecompose system level requirements to subsystems requirements (mechanical, electrical, system/software)Manage and maintain requirements traceability from system requirements through validation evidenceDevelop interface control documents (ICD)Develop compliance matrix, verification and validation plan, integration plan and DVT plan/procedureLead and perform Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)Provide feedback across the design lifecycle to improve testability, reliability, and system robustnessProvide technical guidance for engineering best practices
Key requirements5+ years of experience working on complex hardware systemsDirect experience testing electromechanical systems that integrate hardware, firmware, and software interfacesStrong foundation in electromechanical fundamentals and system integrationExperience with system and subsystem validation (acceptance, environmental, integration, deployment)Experience with existing railroad operations and train control softwareDemonstrated ability to create structured, audit-ready documentation for safety and compliance purposesCross-functional collaborationStrong communication and stakeholder managementStructured problem-solving and analytical thinkingElectromechanical systems integrationFMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)Requirements management and traceability
