The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.Position SummaryThe Oncology Research Nurse I is a Registered Nurse who manages the direct care of patients enrolled in clinical trials within the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. This position reports directly to the Oncology Research Nurse Manager. Subject to business needs, a flexible work arrangement, 4- or 5-day work week, is available. Options will be discussed during the interview process.ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include, but are not limited to:DIRECT PATIENT CAREConduct informed consent discussions / obtain informed consentAttend and/or perform research visitsPerform/review required protocol assessmentsPerform physical assessments within the scope of their nursing practiceAscertain real-time drug accountabilityMonitor patient responses intra- and post-study drug administration (as required per protocol)Conduct study-related patient educationPerform phone triage for acute clinical issues and conduct phone assessments as required per protocolDOCUMENTATION:Responsible for timely research nursing documentation as per CPDM's Research Nursing Documentation SOPFacilitate study drug/product order preparation and verificationOTHER:AdministrativeAssist w/ pre-certifications and prior authorizations for procedures / prescriptionsPrescription call-ins / renewalsRequired meetingsTeam (disease-specific)DepartmentalSIVsSelf-directed review of new protocols, and reeducation on existing protocolsTrainingCompleting required study-related training (i.e. review of educational slides; industry required additional GCP testing)Creating and providing protocol-related inservices for Infusion StaffEligible to apply for Oncology Research Nurse II after two yearsPerform other Duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsBachelor of Science in Nursing or has completed an Accelerated Program in NursingNYS RN LicenseFour years of related experience or equivalent in educationPreferred QualificationsHealth Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training certification, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certificate, and Conflict of Interest (COI) training certification are required upon hireExcellent interpersonal and organizational skillsComputer Skills: proficiency with MS Word programs and familiarity with Mac and PC platformsClinical research experience or oncology nursing experience preferredEqual Opportunity Employer / Disability / VeteranColumbia University is committed to the hiring of qualified local residents.
