MEP Project Engineer

Summary/ObjectiveThe MEP Project Engineer is responsible for managing the budget, design, and installation of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems within commercial, industrial, and institutional construction projects. This role ensures MEPFP systems align with project goals, safety standards, and client expectations. This role works closely with the MEP Manager, Project Manager, Superintendent, subcontractors, MEP Consultants, Architects and design partners to ensure MEPFP systems are designed, installed, and commissioned safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, code requirements, and company quality standards.Essential FunctionsReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.MEP System Design & EngineeringDevelop general mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection system narratives, layouts, and scope specificationsPerform progress reviews of MEPFP system designsEnsure systems meet applicable codes and project specifications.Input on system design to ensure budgets are metMEP CoordinationCollaborate with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, VDC, and architectural teams to resolve clashes and ensure system compatibility.Participate in MEP coordination meetings and review models for constructability.Support development of responsibility matrices and design standards.Project Execution & SupportProvide technical support during preconstruction, including scoping, value engineering, and cost evaluation.Review subcontractor submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings.Conduct site visits to monitor installation progress, quality, and alignment with design intent.Assist with commissioning, testing, and turnover documentation.Quality, Safety & ComplianceEnsure all MEPFP installations follow applicable codes, standards, and safety practices.Participate in QA/QC reviews and ensure work meets specifications.Resolve field issues, identify risks, and recommend corrective actions.Documentation & ReportingMaintain accurate documentation, including as‑builts, testing reports, commissioning logs, and progress updates.Track cost codes, assist with estimating potential change orders, and support financial reporting.Assist in preparing agendas, meeting minutes, and follow-up items for MEP coordination meetings.Required Education And ExperienceElectrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related degrees. Or, an equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience. Electrical emphasis or related field preferred.Working knowledge of plans, prints, specifications, and schematics associated with trade1-3 years of construction experience with working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, Fire Protection and plumbing construction procedures and practicesKnowledge of MEP scopes in commercial, industrial, or institutional construction environments. Familiarity with construction management tools (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, BIM platforms).
