They plan and implement patient and family education and are responsible for assessing the needs of patients and initiating appropriate interventions. The role involves collecting comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health or the situation. The nurse analyzes the assessment data to determine diagnoses or issues. They identify expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or situation. The nurse develops a plan that prescribes strategies and alternatives to attain expected outcomes. They implement the identified plan of care and employ strategies to promote health and ensure a safe environment. The Registered Nurse systematically enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice. They attain knowledge and competency that reflects current nursing practice and evaluate their own nursing practice in relation to professional standards and guidelines. Nurses interact with and contribute to the professional development of peers and colleagues. They collaborate with patients, families, and others in the conduct of nursing practice. The role integrates ethical provisions in all areas of practice and research findings into practice. Nurses provide leadership in the professional practice setting and the profession. The position requires sound judgement, patience, and maintaining a professional demeanor at all times. The ability to work in a busy and stressful environment is essential. Creativity, problem analysis, and decision-making skills are important. The nurse must exercise tact, discretion, sensitivity, and maintain confidentiality. They should be self-directed, completing assignments accurately, thoroughly, and with minimal oversight. Strong emotional intelligence, interpersonal, and teamwork skills are necessary. The registered nurse complies with policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines related to care. They participate in educational opportunities related to cerebrovascular disease.
