The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)Demonstrates knowledge of research-based techniques/programs for achieving specific curriculum objectives in special education.Demonstrates evidence of leadership - subject area and school-wide activities (planning, implementing, and monitoring special education instruction).Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills, and models excellent human relations skills.Monitor implementation of state and federal mandates as they apply to students with disabilities.Provide technical assistance to special education teachers and collaborative teachers and staff.Serve as administrator of special education for referral team meetings, eligibility team meetings, and IEP team meetings.Assist in reviewing the development and implementation of individualized education plans (IEP) and 504 Plans.Monitor and review progress monitoring and data collection to ensure that all students are making progress on their annual IEP goals.Monitor teacher caseloads to ensure that all students are receiving FAPE.Monitor the proper record keeping for all children receiving special education services in assigned schools and review the record for legal compliance.Assist with planning, coordinating, and conducting professional development with respect to instructional improvement and compliance in special education.Participate in district special education leadership meetings as scheduled and follow-through with district recommendations at the school level.Monitor fidelity of implementation of district special education curriculum at school level.Model and demonstrate effective teaching techniques in the classroom.Use peer coaching and modeling to assist other teachers in maximizing instructional effectiveness.Assist in coordinating activities related to the participation of children with disabilities in the various assessment programs.Collaborate with school leadership teams to ensure that the programming, instruction, and support needs of all students are implemented with fidelity.Work with mentoring new special education teachers.Keeps informed on the latest research, trends, and developments in special education and disseminates this information to teachers/principals.Perform other duties as determined appropriate by the principal, administrator of special education, or special education leadership team.Qualifications: KSA's, EducationKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESMust have demonstrated the leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with children with special needs, school staff, and parents. Must have working knowledge of federal and state special education regulations. Demonstrated leadership skills in the design and provision of specialized instruction to students with IEP. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCERequired: Master's Degree in special education, administration and supervision, or curriculum and instruction.At least three years of recent, successful experience as a special education teacher. Special Education and Admin and Supervision Endorsements on current Virginia licensure.
