Flight Software Engineer — ISS Payload (Intern)

SQUID3 Space is launching an active thermal control payload to the ISS as part of MISSE-23 (Materials International Space Station Experiment) in 2026. This is a 6-month sample return mission.Role DescriptionThis is a part-time on-site internship position based in Irvine, CA, for a Flight Software Engineer. You will design, develop, and own the software driving the autonomous operation of SQUID3's ISS payload. You will be responsible for developing and testing flight PCBs and hardware.ResponsibilitiesDesign, implement and own mission critical software applications for ISS payload.Perform unit testing, integration testing, and system-level testing of software components, identifying and resolving any defects or issues.RequirementsU.S. Citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents only2+ years of embedded systems software project experience Junior, Senior or Master's students in CS, EE or equivalent.Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python and C++.Experience with real time systems and sensors data loggingKnowledge of embedded Linux operating systemsFamiliarity with communications protocols, such as RS-422, RS-485Experience with software integration, testing, and validation for real-time and distributed systemsFamiliarity with network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP) and secure communication systems
