Database Migration Lead - Oracle, SQL Server & Cloud Modernization

Job Type: Contract Experience: 10+ years Job OverviewKey ResponsibilitiesInventory and assess existing Oracle and SQL Server estates (versions, sizes, dependencies, licensing, performance baselines) Define migration strategy for each database: rehost, replatform, or refactor - including homogeneous and heterogeneous moves Build detailed wave plans, runbooks, rollback plans, and cutover schedules aligned to business downtime windows Execute migrations using Oracle Data Guard, RMAN, Data Pump, GoldenGate, SQL Server Always On, log shipping, AWS DMS, or Azure DMS Design and run data reconciliation checks (row counts, checksums, integrity validation) Benchmark pre- and post-migration performance; tune queries, indexes, and configurations Design HA/DR in target environments (RAC, Data Guard, Always On Availability Groups) Coordinate with application owners, infrastructure, network, security, and business teams Produce migration runbooks, as-built documentation, and handover materials Required SkillsOracle: 12c/19c, RMAN, Data Pump, Data Guard, RAC, ASM, GoldenGate SQL Server: 2016+, Always On Availability Groups, Log Shipping, SSIS, Backup/Restore Migration tooling: Oracle GoldenGate, AWS DMS/SCT, Azure Database Migration Service Scripting: SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL, PowerShell, Bash, Python Infrastructure: Storage, Networking, VMware, Linux, Windows Server Proven experience migrating multi-TB, business-critical databases with minimal downtime Preferred SkillsAmazon RDS, Azure SQL / Managed Instance, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Exadata Cloud Heterogeneous migration experience (Oracle → PostgreSQL or SQL Server) Oracle and Microsoft licensing knowledge during migrations ITIL change management and cutover governance familiarity Certifications: OCP, Microsoft Certified Azure Database Administrator Associate, AWS Certified Database - Specialty Location & Work Model Hillsborough, OR or Santa Clara, CA - fully onsite, 5 days per week.
