Commercial Banker - Venture Capital Technology - Vice President

The Venture Capital Relationship Team (VCRT) is a key component of the firm's overall Innovation Economy (IE) business, covering venture capital firms and partners in early and growth stage companies. As a Commercial Banker on the VCRT team, you will be responsible for leading a team of associates and analysts that support both team initiatives/strategy and the coverage effort of our senior relationship executives.
The Venture Capital Relationship Team (VCRT) at J.P. Morgan supports the Global Banking team's pursuit to be the #1 bank supporting the venture-backed ecosystem. The team supports both the Commercial Banking and Investing Banking businesses by helping position J.P. Morgan for everything from seed-stage banking to venture debt for growing companies to exits for late-stage companies, including IPOs and M&A. While our clients are ultimately venture capital firms themselves, we seek advocacy from them as it relates to their portfolio company banking and financing needs. We are seeking candidates who are highly motivated and experienced and possess a strong interest in venture capital, technology, and healthcare; demonstrate a commitment to teamwork and partnership; and exhibit exceptional work ethic and attention to detail.
The Venture Capital Relationship Team (VCRT) is part of J.P. Morgan's Commercial Bank within the Commercial & Specialized Industries group. In this role you will be the focal point of client acquisition and ongoing relationships with the world's most innovative companies. We work both independently and as part of a dynamic team to deliver the entire firm to our clients.
Job Responsibilities
Work with colleagues across various J.P. Morgan lines of business - including Investment Bank, Commercial Bank and Private Bank - to deliver value-add services to venture capital firms and their portfolio companies
Partner with senior relationship executives on their coverage plan; help drive coverage strategy of those firms and meeting follow-ups
Develop new business by acquiring new client relationships at select VC firms and helping deepen relationships at already-covered VC firms
Lead team of associates/analysts that support team initiatives/strategy
Spearhead the creation of marketing materials / content pieces for our clients
Required Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills
5+ years of related experience
Thorough understanding of the startup / venture-backed ecosystem, including the financing markets from seed through exit
Passionate about innovation and the startup ecosystem
Entrepreneurial spirit and strong interest in building meaningful client relationships
Experience with and knowledge of relevant corporate finance products including IPOs, M&A, and venture debt
Ability to work well under pressure and tight deadlines, while doing so independently
FINRA Series 79, 63 and Securities Industry Essentials licenses required or must obtain within 180 days of hire
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
Bachelor's degree and formal credit or investment banking training preferred
Knowledge and existing networks in the local innovation economy and venture capital sectors preferred
Superior knowledge of venture market dynamics and the competitive landscape preferred
