Benefits are subject to changeJob SummaryAs an Assistant Roadmaster, you'll support the Roadmaster in leading Maintenance of Way teams and ensuring safe, reliable railroad infrastructure. This position will perform track inspections. You’ll work outdoors in all weather conditions overseeing the maintenance and repair activities of your team across a territory. Also supporting collaboration across departments and drive progress on track and capital projects. If you’re passionate about people, operations, and making a meaningful impact every day, this could be the perfect fit.See our employees in action to learn more at https://www.gwrr.com/careers/.ResponsibilitiesPartner with the Roadmaster to manage the day-to-day oversight of maintenance and repair activities surrounding the MoW functions ensuring compliance with all federal, state and other applicable railroad safety and operational regulations Perform track inspection and maintenance alongside the crewCollaborate with other departments to ensure efficient and organized operations of the railroad Manage and ensure department meets its track, signal, and capital projects service goals Perform supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws Monitor and closely control all maintenance and other related costs associated with the DepartmentConduct efficiency and operating tests according to company practicesConduct incident investigations (derailments, personal injury, etc.) and prepare associated reportsManage projects and perform other duties as assignedWorking Conditions / Physical RequirementsFull-time (40 plus hours weekly)Varying schedule in a 24/7 work environment that includes nights, holidays, weekends, and on-callOutdoor work in all weather conditionsWalking on uneven surfaces and climbing ladders and equipment always ensuring three points of contactAble to squat, bend and lift overhead with extended periods of kneeling or crouching (bending at the knees)Frequent lifting of equipment and tools up to 76 poundsSkills And ExperienceDemonstrated ability to self-motivate; prioritize; promote safe work habits; and manage budgetary constraints3+ years in the rail industry is a plusAble to complete written forms and reports as requiredAble to read and interpret documents including safety rules, manuals, and regulationsBasic computer skills (Microsoft Office, applications, reporting, etc.)Possess situational awareness and decision-making abilities to respond effectively in a safety sensitive environmentRequired Education And CredentialsHigh school diploma GED and prior experience as a Track InspectorRWP and 213.7 qualifiedValid driver’s licenseCommercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a plus or able to obtain one if requiredAt least 18 years of ageEmployment RequirementsPre-employment physical, hearing, and vision medical reviewSubject to federally mandated drug and alcohol testing including pre-employment drug screeningBackground screening including criminal and motor vehicle driving historyRelocation:Must live within 50 miles of assigned location or be willing to relocate.
