Spatial Data Analyst

GIS / Data AnalystEchospectra is looking for a high-cadence GIS / Data Analyst to help us turn complex, messy data into clear intelligence.We work across wildland fire, forensic intelligence, geospatial analysis, and data-driven decision support. Our projects involve many different types of data—and often require figuring out what information is available, what it means, and how to communicate the story it tells.This role is ideal for someone who enjoys diving into unfamiliar datasets, working across disciplines, and moving quickly from raw information to useful insight.What you’ll doWork with diverse data sources, including CSVs, Excel files, PDFs, rasters, imagery, time series, and geospatial datasetsQuickly familiarize yourself with unfamiliar data and identify its structure, limitations, and latent valueUse GIS tools to explore attribute tables, query and filter data, visualize patterns, and compare datasetsCombine information from multiple sources to develop and communicate findingsCreate maps, visualizations, summaries, and other analytical outputsHelp identify the important questions a dataset can answer—even when the right question is not obvious at the outsetIterate quickly with the team as new information emergesSupport computational analysis, modeling, and client-facing work with strong human analytical judgmentMaintain organized, accurate, and well-documented project dataWhat we’re looking forExperience with GIS and spatial data analysis, preferably using QGIS, ArcGIS, or similar toolsStrong ability to learn and work with unfamiliar datasetsComfort working across multiple data formats and disciplinesA practical, analytical mindset and a bias toward exploring the data directlyAbility to move efficiently from raw data to an initial understanding and actionable outputStrong visual reasoning and an instinct for looking at data in multiple waysExcellent attention to detail and data organization skillsClear written and verbal communicationComfort working in a fast-moving environment with shifting questions and prioritiesThe curiosity and initiative to investigate problems independentlyHelpful, but not requiredExperience with Python, SQL, R, or other analytical toolsFamiliarity with raster, remote-sensing, imagery, or time-series dataStatistical thinking or experience with exploratory data analysisExperience working with PDFs, scanned documents, or data digitizationBackground in fire science, environmental science, geography, engineering, intelligence analysis, or a related fieldWho will thrive in this roleYou’ll do well here if you like opening a dataset and immediately asking:What is actually in this data?What can I learn by sorting, filtering, mapping, and comparing it?What patterns are visible?What information might be latent here?How can I communicate what matters clearly and quickly?This is a hands-on analytical role for someone who wants to work across many kinds of problems—not a narrowly defined research position.
