Salary: $6,300.00 MonthlyLocation : Molokai, HIJob Type: Permanent Full-TimeJob Number: HC R-12502Department: Department of Environmental ManagementOpening Date: 03/27/2026Closing Date: ContinuousDescriptionIMMEDIATE VACANCY: MolokaiOperates and maintains a bulldozer, a compactor and a front end loader to move, compact and cover refuse as a primary assignment in a sanitary landfill area; may operate other types of motorized equipment as an incidental assignment; and performs other duties as required.Distinguishing Characteristics:This class differs from the Landfill Bulldozer Operator class in that the Landfill Equipment Operator I operates and maintains Caterpillar D-8N, D-8K, and/or D-8R bulldozers, Caterpillar 826 and/or Aljon 81K compactors, and Caterpillar 950 front end loader or similar equipment as its primary assignment at a sanitary landfill area; whereas the Landfill Bulldozer Operator operates and maintains a D-7 and/or TD-18 bulldozer as its primary assignment at a sanitary landfill area.This class differs from other classes in the Equipment operator series in that the Landfill Equipment Operator I operates and maintains Caterpillar D-8N, D-8K, and/or D-8R bulldozers, Caterpillar 826 and/or Aljon 81K compactors, and Caterpillar 950 front end loader or similar equipment as its primary assignment at a sanitary landfill area; whereas other classes in the Equipment Operator series reflect the operation and maintenance of more than one piece of motorized equipment as a primary assignment in support of various public works activities.Examples of DutiesThe following are examples of duties and are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class. The omission of specific duties statements does not preclude management from assigning such duties if such duties are a logical assignment for the position.Operates a bulldozer, a compactor, and a front end loader to move and compact refuse, ashes, and dirt at a sanitary landfill site.Constructs and maintains roadways in and out of landfill area.Stockpiles dirt; maintains grade with cover material, grades and terraces the area around the landfill to prevent slides; shapes the area to promote proper drainage; and removes and segregates boulders.Keeps bulldozer, compactor, loader and other equipment supplied with fuel, oil and water and makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment when necessary.Deals with the public.May operate other equipment such as a tank truck.May perform manual labor.Minimum Qualification RequirementsTraining and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of work experience in the operation of equipment applicable to positions in this class or certification by a licensed trainer of the ability to satisfactorily operate equipment applicable to positions in this class.License Requirement: Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (Class A or B with applicable endorsements) and a current Department of Transportation Medical Examiner's certificate.Knowledge of: operation of motorized vehicles representative of this class; laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations governing the operation of motor vehicles; hazards and safety practices of operating motorized equipment, particularly over uneven terrain; maintenance needs of motorized equipment representative of this class; construction safety practices.Ability to: operate and maintain motorized equipment representative of this class; apply skill and judgment in operating motorized equipment representative of this class; make emergency repairs to equipment representative of this class; drive skillfully, courteously, and safely according to traffic laws and ordinances; service motorized equipment; give and receive oral and written instructions; work under obnoxious and hazardous conditions; perform construction and maintenance operations using the equipment representative of this class without close supervision.Health and Physical Condition:Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.Physical Effort Grouping: HeavyAPPLICATIONS MAY BE FILED ONLINE AT:If you have never applied for a job using the NEOGOV system, you must create an account.
