Candidates should have prior experience teaching and playing the violin and cello. Candidates should be able to guide students from beginning to advanced skill levels in sight-reading new music, analyzing instrumentation, leading group rehearsals of approximately 20 students per class, demonstrating bowings, phrasing, correct fingerings, shifting, posture and technique. The candidate should also have experience in selecting songs to teach and prepare ensembles at each level for Spring and Winter District concerts. Candidates will also be responsible for implementing Pre-AP Music lessons weekly to students in grades 6-8, following the CollegeBoard Pre-AP Music Curriculum.NJ Teaching Certificate for Music (Limited CE, CE, CEAS, Provisional or Standard); Endorsment 2100 or NJ Substitute CertificatePrior experience teaching strings to studentsAbility to teach instrumental is requiredAbility to demonstrate knowledge of effective teaching methods and developmentally appropriate classroom activitiesAbility to maintain a positive learning environmentStrong interpersonal and communication skillsCriminal history background checkProof of US citizenship or legal resident alien statusResponsibilitiesCoordinate classroom tasks as outlined by the building principalWork to achieve the New Jersey Learning Standards and district educational goals and objectives by promoting active learning in the classroom using board-adopted curriculum and other appropriate learning activitiesDevelop lesson plans and instructional materials, and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each studentSet specific objectives wherever possible in lesson preparation and weekly lesson plans; and carry through presentation to effectively achieve these objectivesMonitor students' academic progress and personal growth toward stated objectives of instruction and behavioral improvement plans. Effectively communicate standards and progress with parents regularlyMaintain productive relationships with parents and other staff membersMaintain records of students' educational and behavioral progress in the On Course system and summarize as appropriateIdentify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and resolving learning problemsEstablish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a classroom climate conducive to learningPlan class activities and lesson presentations that are age-appropriate for the class and meet the individual needs, interests and ability levels of all studentsMaintain professional competence and pursue continuous improvement through in-service education and other professional growth activitiesParticipate in school-level planning, faculty meetings/committees, and other school system groupsMake effective use of community engagementCompensation:As per HEA ContractMandatory Orientation: Last Week of August
