Applications Developer

Design, build, and support custom applications and data integrations that enhance agency operations — with a focus on functionality, performance, and secure handling of sensitive information.Duties & ResponsibilitiesDevelop, train, and optimize machine learning models using frameworks such as ML.NET, Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or KerasIntegrate artificial intelligence (AI) models into existing in-house applications and services running in secure on-prem environmentsExperiment with large language models (LLMs) and agentic coding tools, evaluating their potential for secure, internal automation and analytics tasksPerform data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation using structured and unstructured data from multiple internal systemsCollaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure all models and data workflows align with applicable data protection and information security standards, including protections for sensitive and personally identifiable information (PII)Work closely with analysts, investigators, and IT staff to identify opportunities where AI can provide operational valueParticipate in code reviews, testing, and deployment activities within a collaborative team environmentContinuously learn and prototype emerging AI tools while maintaining strong data governance disciplinePerform other related duties as requiredKnowledge & AbilitiesKnowledge of machine learning frameworks such as ML.NET, Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or KerasKnowledge of Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, and AI agent frameworksBasic understanding of secure coding principles and data protection requirements for sensitive informationWorking knowledge of office policies and proceduresAbility to work with structured and unstructured datasets from multiple sources such as databases, APIs, logs, and documentsAbility to analyze complex problems, test possible solutions, and apply practical, innovative approachesAbility to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environmentAbility to stay curious and continuously learn new AI tools and techniques while maintaining responsible data practicesWorking ConditionsWork within a professional office environmentStand/sit at a keyboard or workstation for prolonged periodsMay engage in light physical exertion (e.g., lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials up to 10 pounds)Work standard business hours; may work non-standard hours including nights, weekends, and holidaysIn the event of an emergency or disaster, may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the management chain, before, during, or after the emergency/disasterMinimum Education & ExperienceA high school diploma or GED, and six years of software development and systems integration experience — including two years of full-stack application development in a team environment and two years working with LangChain, Ollama, or similar frameworks using vector databases for local LLMs and agentic AI systemsORAn associate degree (accredited institution, computer science/IT/software development or closely related field), and four years of the above experience — including one year full-stack in a team environment and one year with LangChain/Ollama/similar frameworksORA bachelor’s degree (accredited institution, computer science/IT/software development or closely related field), and two years of software development and systems integration experienceORThree years of experience in a related technical position involving software development, systems integration, data reporting, or database management aligned with the duties outlined in this job descriptionAdditional Job RequirementsAttendance at the specified work location is requiredDepending on assignment, a valid Florida Driver License may be required at time of employment; driving history will be thoroughly reviewed and may be grounds for disqualificationNo visible tattoos on face, head, and neck; tattoos that take away from professional appearance must be covered with an appropriate white, black, or neutral coveringNo illegal drug sale within lifetimeNo illegal drug use within the past 36 months; no marijuana use within the last 12 monthsNo felony convictions within lifetimeNo misdemeanor convictions involving perjury, false statement, or domestic violence within lifetimeNo dishonorable discharge from any branch of the United States Armed Forces, the United States Coast Guard, National Guard, or Reserve ForcesSuccessful completion of a background investigation including criminal, reference, employment, and neighborhood checks; polygraph; medical evaluation; and drug screeningMust live within the required service area at the time of appointment/employment (certified only)
