Fiber TechnicianThe Fiber Technician installs, splices, tests, and maintains fiber optic cable across a variety of environments, ensuring high-quality connectivity and reliable network performance. This role combines hands-on field work with technical troubleshooting, including reading and interpreting technical documents, performing precise splices, and conducting detailed testing using specialized equipment.ResponsibilitiesSplice various types and sizes of fiber optic cable, including single-mode, multimode, stranded, and ribbon cables, with a strong focus on accurate ribbon splicing.Analyze and troubleshoot basic technical issues related to fiber optic installations, connectivity, and performance.Review, interpret, and work from maps, drawings, blueprints, schematics, and testing documents to plan and complete fiber work accurately.Perform daily tests, checks, and routine maintenance on splicing and testing equipment to ensure proper operation and reliability.Conduct optical continuity and conformance testing using tools such as OTDR and power meters to verify quality and integrity of fiber links.Make splicing rearrangements and modifications on existing fiber facilities in buried, underground, aerial, and in-building locations.Complete terminations and connections using appropriate hand tools and methods to meet technical and safety standards.Follow established safety practices and work procedures while performing construction, assembly, splicing, and wiring tasks in telecom and data center environments.Coordinate work sequences in construction and underground settings to support fiber optic installation and maintenance activities.Essential SkillsHands-on experience in construction, assembly, splicing, wiring, cable, and electrical work related to fiber optic installations.Proficiency in working with single-mode, multimode, stranded, and ribbon fiber optic cables.Strong ribbon splicing skills, with the ability to perform precise and consistent ribbon splices.Skilled in OTDR testing and power meter testing for fiber optic networks.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, maps, drawings, and related technical documents.Experience with fiber terminations and confident use of a wide range of hand tools.Knowledge of optics, fiber optic principles, and telecommunication systems.Experience in telecom, data centers, underground construction, and fiber splicing work.Understanding of general labor practices in underground, telecom, and fiber optic installation environments.Additional Skills & QualificationsConstruction experience supporting telecom, data center, underground, and splicing projects.Familiarity with fiber optic installation in buried, underground, aerial, and building environments.Experience working in or around data centers and telecom infrastructure.Comfort working in general labor roles that support technical fiber optic tasks.Why Work Here?You will join a team that values long-term commitment and offers a clear path to direct hire, rather than temporary assignments.
