Process Safety EngineerSeeking an experienced Process Safety Engineer to lead and strengthen Process Safety Management (PSM) programs at a major chemical manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with OSHA PSM regulations, driving risk reduction initiatives, supporting plant operations, and fostering a strong process safety culture across the site. Working closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and leadership teams, you'll play a key role in protecting people, assets, and the environment while supporting safe and reliable production.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and continuously improve the site's OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) programEnsure compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 and applicable EPA Risk Management Program (RMP) requirementsDevelop and execute annual Process Safety objectives, plans, and performance metricsSupport plant leadership in identifying, prioritizing, and mitigating process safety risksMaintain Process Safety Information (PSI) and ensure documentation remains accurate and inspection-readyCoordinate and support Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), and resolution of recommendationsServe as the site Subject Matter Expert for Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) processesMonitor and report Process Safety performance using leading and lagging indicators, including API RP 754 metricsPartner with operations, maintenance, engineering, and reliability teams to support safe plant modifications and maintenance activitiesSupport Mechanical Integrity programs by coordinating inspections, tracking findings, and ensuring corrective actions are completedParticipate in capital projects to ensure Process Safety requirements are incorporated throughout project executionConduct Process Safety audits, self-assessments, and support regulatory inspectionsInvestigate Process Safety incidents and develop effective corrective actions using Root Cause Analysis methodologiesProvide technical guidance and Process Safety expertise to plant personnelDeliver Process Safety training, coaching, and awareness initiatives to strengthen site capability and accountabilityCollaborate with Corporate EHS and other manufacturing sites to implement best practices and standardize Process Safety programsRequirementsBachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical disciplineMinimum 5 years of experience within chemical manufacturing, petrochemical, refining, or other process manufacturing environmentsHands-on experience supporting or managing OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) programsStrong knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 and Process Safety principlesExperience supporting cross-functional teams including Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and ReliabilityStrong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skillsExperience using Microsoft Office and technical database systemsAbility to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a strong focus on safety and compliancePreferred ExperienceExperience leading or facilitating Process Hazard Analyses (PHA)Knowledge of Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA)Exposure to Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Safety Integrity Levels (SIL), and Safety Instrumented Functions (SIF)Experience with Process Safety software packagesCertified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP)Experience with Root Cause Analysis methodologies such as Apollo, Cause Mapping, FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis, or 5 WhysExperience supporting EPA Risk Management Program (RMP) compliancePrevious experience within ammonia, fertilizer, chemical, or petrochemical manufacturingWhat's on OfferOpportunity to join a leading North American chemical and fertilizer manufacturerHighly visible technical role with direct influence on plant safety and operational reliabilityCollaborative environment working alongside plant leadership and corporate Process Safety teamsOpportunity to drive continuous improvement and strengthen Process Safety performanceLong-term career progression within a growing organization investing in sustainable manufacturing and low-carbon technologiesCompensation & BenefitsCompetitive base salaryAnnual performance bonusMedical, dental, and vision insurance401(k) with company matchEmployee Share Purchase PlanCompany-paid life insurance, AD&D, and disability coveragePaid vacation, holidays, and sick leaveEmployee Assistance ProgramProfessional development and career advancement opportunitiesAdditional InformationThis position is based onsite in AlabamaCandidates must be authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not availableSuccessful candidates will be required to complete background screening, drug testing, medical evaluations, and respirator fit testingPosition requires the ability to work in an operating chemical facility, including climbing stairs and ladders and working at heights when requiredThis position supports a DHS-regulated chemical facility and is considered safety and security sensitiveExcellent opportunity to play a critical role in protecting employees, the community, and the environment while supporting the production of essential agricultural and industrial products.
