Dental Hygienist

Job Description Description: Looking for two days a week. Monday & Wednesday 12-5Position SummaryThe Dental Hygienist provides preventive care, supports periodontal health, assists the dentist during exams, and delivers exceptional patient education. This role is essential for maintaining the oral health of patients through accurate assessment, thorough cleanings, and meticulous documentation. The hygienist ensures patients are informed, comfortable, and supported in their long-term oral health journey.Key ResponsibilitiesClinical & Preventive CarePerform routine dental cleanings (prophy) and periodontal therapy (scaling and root planning).Conduct full periodontal charting and assessments.Diagnose the appropriate type of cleaning based on clinical findings and patient needs.Take necessary radiographs using digital X-ray systems (Dexis, Nomad).Update patient medical histories at each visit.Apply fluoride treatments and sealants as indicated.Assist the dentist during exams, including documenting findings and supporting patient communication.Maintain accurate, detailed clinical notes in Dentrix.Patient Communication & EducationEducate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques and home-care routines.Review periodontal conditions and explain the importance of routine care.Discuss maintenance schedules, recall intervals, and long-term oral health goals.Provide clear and compassionate explanations tailored to each patient's needs.Note: Hygienists do not diagnose or discuss restorative treatment needs.Technology & Clinical SystemsDentrix practice management softwareDexis digital X-ray systemNomad handheld X-ray unitIntraoral cameraDental Intel for performance metrics and patient insightsSterilization, OSHA, & Infection ControlSterilize instruments and maintain operatory cleanliness according to OSHA and CDC standards.Adhere to all OSHA regulations for safety and infection control.Participate in maintaining instruments, equipment, and proper documentation.Ensure that all hygiene protocols and sterilization procedures are followed daily.Scheduling & Flow ManagementMaintain an efficient schedule and stay on time to support patient flow.Pre-appoint patients for future visits as needed.Communicate proactively with the front office and clinical team regarding patient needs or schedule adjustments.Requirements: Experience RequirementsPrior dental hygiene experience not required; new graduates welcome.Compliance with state licensure requirements.Local anesthesia certification recommended where applicable but not mandatory.Soft Skills & CompetenciesGentle yet thorough clinical approachPatient, empathetic, and compassionate with all age groupsStrong communicator with the ability to educate and motivate patientsDetail-oriented with consistent documentation habitsOrganized, efficient, and reliableExcellent time management and the ability to stay on scheduleTeam-oriented and collaborative with the entire dental team
