PLEASE PROVIDE OUR OFFICE WITH A COPY PRIOR TO BEING THE SELECTED CANDIDATE.Comments: This position is contingent on grant funding each year.Purpose StatementThe job of Paraeducator - Learning Assistance Program (LAP) is done for the purpose/s of providing support and assisting students, teachers, and other certificated staff to assist with implementing instruction goals, developing student's learning, providing supplemental instruction, student goal setting, addressing possible barriers, and evaluating students’ progress on learning objectives.This job is distinguished from similar jobs by the following characteristics: Supporting students by providing supplemental instruction and services to students who are not yet meeting academic standards in basic skills areas to support success in school and in life.Essential FunctionsAssists students and staff for the purpose of implementing learning plans to meet instructional goals and to evaluate student's progress;Maintains confidentiality at all times following HIPPA and FERPA for the purpose of adhering and in accordance with federal, state, and district guidelines;Monitors students for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment;Participates in a wide variety of meetings and trainings for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving employee's skills and knowledge;Prepares and delivers instructions, under the supervision of certificated staff, for the purpose of providing supplemental instruction and services (academic and non-academic) to meet academic standards in basic skills areas as identified by state, district, or other measurement tools;Provides clerical and program support (e.g. collecting and inputting data, correspondence, copying, filing, preparing, and organizing instructional materials, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and providing general support for the program related to learning goals and objectives for students;Responds to and reports emergency situations (e.g. injured student, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.Other FunctionsPerforms other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.Job Requirements: Minimum QualificationsSkills, Knowledge, And AbilitiesSKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation; stages of child development and learning styles; and age-appropriate activities.ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; setting priorities; working as part of a team; and working with constant interruptions.ResponsibilityResponsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to affect the organization’s services.Work EnvironmentThe usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and some fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, 20% standing.
