About the Role
The Maintenance Supervisor is a hands-on leadership role responsible for equipment reliability, maintenance execution, and safety compliance across Phinite's production facility. This role works alongside maintenance technicians and directly supports the Maintenance Manager to keep operations running safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate thrives in a startup environment, brings strong mechanical and electrical fundamentals, and takes pride in building systems and teams from the ground up.
Compensation & Advancement
$27–$32/hr (starting at $27/hr during a 3–6 month probationary period)
Pay increases based on contribution and impact on operations
Key Responsibilities
Lead commissioning, startup, and acceptance testing of new equipment including mixers, bucket elevators, conveyors, baggers, dust collection systems, pumps, compressors, and boilers.
Supervise and work alongside maintenance technicians performing mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation work on production and material handling equipment.
Enforce and set standards for companywide safety policies and operational expectations.
Ensure equipment reliability and minimize downtime by quickly troubleshooting failures and conducting root cause analysis on recurring issues.
Implement and enforce OSHA and process safety requirements related to material storage, confined spaces, hot work, and lockout/tagout (LOTO).
Maintain and update equipment files, PM procedures, and maintenance history in the CMMS, including critical spares lists for key assets.
Support development of operating and maintenance SOPs, PM checklists, and emergency procedures.
Participate in incident investigations and safety audits; drive corrective actions and train maintenance staff on safe work practices.
Support the Maintenance Manager with parts ordering and supply management.
Skills & Qualifications
Required:
3-5 years of maintenance experience in process, chemical, fertilizer, feed, grain, or similar bulk material or continuous production environment, including some leadership responsibility.
Strong mechanical skills with conveyors, bucket elevators, mixers, pumps, gearboxes, bearings, lubrication, and industrial packaging equipment.
Working knowledge of basic industrial electrical systems including motors, VFDs, and sensors; ability to work safely around energized equipment.
Familiarity with OSHA requirements for chemical facilities, including storage and handling of fertilizers, and general industry safety standards.
Experience using a CMMS or work order system, building PM routines, and maintaining accurate records.
Demonstrated leadership, communication, and coaching skills in a small-plant or startup environment.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
This role regularly involves working in dusty and noisy environments around bulk fertilizer, mixers, conveyors, and moving equipment. Physical requirements include:
Frequent walking, climbing stairs and ladders, and working at heights.
Entering confined spaces as required and in accordance with safety protocols.
Lifting up to approximately 50 lbs as needed.
Availability for extended hours, off-shifts, and on-call response during commissioning, ramp-up, and critical maintenance outages.
