Billing Specialist

A Health Care Billing Specialist ensures accurate billing of medical services, processes insurance claims, follows up on unpaid claims, and maintains compliance with healthcare regulations. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the financial health of medical practices, hospitals, and clinics. Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare and submit medical claims to insurance companies (private insurers, Medicare, Medicaid) Review patient records to ensure accurate coding and billing Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility Post payments and reconcile accounts Follow up on denied or unpaid claims Communicate with insurance companies regarding claim issues Generate patient invoices and explain billing statements Maintain accurate financial records and documentation Ensure compliance with HIPAA and healthcare billing regulations Work closely with medical coders and healthcare providers Required Skills & QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent (Associate's degree preferred) Certification such as: Certified Professional Biller (CPB) - AAPC Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) - National Healthcareer AssociationKnowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems Strong attention to detail and accuracy Understanding of insurance guidelines and reimbursement processes Excellent communication and customer service skills Basic accounting and data entry skills Compensation: $75,000 to $80,000 annually Compensation is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.
